Watch Michael Moore's "Sicko". You'll be left feeling even more disgusted. |

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

Things are not as they seem

I find it slightly puzzling that he didn't have health insurance. I mean, Wilco is a pretty well known band. Granted he apparently wasn't a member anymore, but what was going on in his life that he had more important things to spend his money on? (Thought I suspect I know the answer...) |

That's the thing: he had health insurance. Because of an earlier knee injury, his need for a hip replacement was classed as a pre-existing condition. It's the beauty of our system--anyone can have the best healthcare in the world unless they really need it. |

Should have flown to England and got it for free... |

I don't know, the issue has been there since before the Clinton years and I'm not sure how many people actually saw the movie, but it was definitely powerful. It gets you "outside the bubble" to take a look at how the burden of cost warps our thinking when we or our loved ones have health problems. The sheer amount of time that goes into getting and keeping care here is insane--isn't the point of civilization to spend less time on survival and more on living? |
