      What NOT to do EVER.

I kinda hate myself right now. It's 5:20 AM where I am, and I have an 8 to 10 page term paper due tomorrow. I haven't slept... and I haven't even started writing it. I would not recommend anyone ever doing this... ever.

Sounds like my daughter. She has a four page essay due on a 400 page book today and also has an essay due on a 350 page book she has not even started.

Needless to say, she is laying out of school today to work on them.

I've talked to her about time management. Maybe now she will believe me

I did something like that for an assignment last semester and I'll never do it again.

Yeah.. it's rediculous. I'm all thoughts no action. I don't get it. I'm a horrible procrastinator (hence the title "We are the hollow men", and the signature... both from the poem "The Hollow Men" by T.S. Eliot. It describes me exactly. "Shape without form, shade without colour, / Paralysed force, gesture without motion;".

I recognize my problem, and I know the common ways of dealing with them. Perhaps there is a deeper issue here that I'm not aware of yet. Needless to say, it better show itself bloody soon, I'm sick of all this foolishness.

I gave up. I can't think. I'm gonna go to sleep and write it later today... hand it in tomorrow (a day late)... I mean, it's 5% off, but I honestly can't write worth shit right now. It's better than if I continued writing now, handed it in today and got 30% deducted for being an absolute moron.

It's actually proven. Below is an image of what your brain looks like before and after cramming for a test or a term paper:

*grins* i've done it a couple times in the past, but part of that has to do with the fact that my body thinks it should sleep in a series of naps, one from about 2pm till 6, then another from about 2am to 6. i'm not sure on the logic there, but it's starting to get a bit annoying, cuz my body also flips out on me every now and again if i keep that pattern... or mayb it's that i'll start the afternoon nap late... eh, i dunno.

i know someone (*coughs* werburn *coughs*)though who didn't touch the paper/presentation of the year until late the night before it was due... was supposed to have a ton of research and be something like 5-8 pages... so werburn just started writing, knew the topic pretty well just in general, and was scared that it wouldn't be long enough, so just kept writing, connectng points until something like 5am, hit the print...

...and realized that the paper was something like 27 pages long. don't you love what sleep deprivation does to your perception of space and time?

Well Dylan, whatever you do take this advice from my stupid ass friend and DO NOT BUY papers off the internet!!! She spent like 75 bucks on a paper, and I guess the professor had seen it before, she got caught and was in trouble (should have been kicked out). Then she did the same thing AGAIN with the same professor! She's such an idiot. Anyway, she got suspended, I can't believe they didn't kick her ass out of school.

ya...that was funny..."write a paper on Mark 12:21" (that wasnt the chapter:verse, i dont remember what it was)...so i wrote a 23 page, 2 and a half hour sermon on that single verse...thats what i get for being sleep deprived...though, if you recall, kitty, i had stayed up the previous two nights as well (not all night, but like 2 hours sleep a night)...so i was way out there...

...i also wrote that stupid english essay that year the same way...only that one only went over by 1 or 2 pages

oh well, geuss i wont be doing that anymore! *insert sarcastic laughter*

Hey , here is another thing not to do
DON"T PUT UR ATM CARD IN THE CD PLAYER!!
Your card wont work after that, ask me I had to explain to my bank what happened to my card!
(I was sitting in my car waiting for my husband. Just playing with my ATM card - slidding it along the edge of the dashboard around the cd player "in the front loader". The front loader sucks it in, ...spits it out and says "error reading".)

Hey, that's classic! Kind of like the commercial where the kid feed his oatmeal to the VCR!

Something else never to try: Walking along the trunk of a fallen tree while carrying a chain saw.

I only did that once. Luckily, only bruises and no amputated limbs!

when chopping up a fallen tree with a chainsaw, make sure you have one hand in a position to hold the chainsaw down, so when you hit a rock that has been embedded in the tree from it falling, the chainsaw deosnt bounce back up and saw your face in half

Another thing not to do is be the Judo partner of someone who occasionally visits the psycho ward. Made that mistake and she ended up straining a tendon in my left shoulder. I heard also that she popped another girl's knee out last week. CHECK MENTAL CAPACITY IN MARTIAL ARTS! Just my 2 cents.

Haha. Well. This isn't the only essay I have like this. There's actually 3 in a row one after another. Today I gotta write one. Tomorrow I have to write another. And Friday..I have until tuesday for a 12 page history term paper. And I better god damned start on friday, I swear to god, or else I WILL die.

So. Just a little heads up... if you guys don't hear from me next week, it means that I procrastinated on friday and am lying in a ditch somewhere.

Yup, I'm definitely a procrastinator! =P I never had a 15 page report or anything yet, but they will be coming when I get older (grreat...=/)

As I'm typing this, I still have some Biology and Algebra homework. Heh.

But that's nothing compared to those stupid essays...

And, to add my 200 sen, I also have a 5-7 page paper due by 10:10am tomorrow [Thursday] -- and we're supposed to have all sorts of sources and an annotated biblography to boot. Luckily the library is open late...

Yeah it's happened to me one too many times...

The worst part was when I had to turn in a thesis paper to graduate with honors from high school. Everyone started their research and interviews and stuff on February and meanwhile I just gave a lot of excuses as to why I was behind. When July vacations came up(the thesis first draft was due late august) I hadn't really done anything about it, so I had to spend most of the vacations trying to catch up with the group(visiting tons of libraries and government instututions, then summarize about 7000-10000 pages worth of info, then pass it onto flash cards and then come up with a scheme and way in which I would present all the information and begin to write everything). The last 4-5 days before I had to turn it in I only slept like 3 hour a day, and the last day I didn't sleep at all, and then didn't go to school till about 5 minutes before the day was over, and handed in to the profesor just before she left. Now that is what I called pushing it to the last minute.

I know it doesn't sound like the much since I had like a month and a half to do everything, but the workload was truly something that should have taken since the beggining to appropiately finish it. I remember how tired I was all along, but how I just refused to give up and that makes me really proud today. Much prouder than any fancy "Honor" title they can give me...I did it for myself and for the experience and not for an extra word on my title....it was perhaps the most rewarding experience I have ever had, as it is supposed to have been in the top 2 thesis that were presented.....

Anyway...the point of the story is that procrastination is a game I love very much to play and I will everytime I get the chance...the adrenaline rush I get from it is outstanding
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh oh man. I stayed up all night. I finished writing both papers at 11:30 am. Sent them both to my teachers through email and called in sick (which i guess is sort of true... i felt sick and tired , but im actually not sick). And then i went to bed... it's 1:50 am right now... that was the best sleep ive ever had. holy shit.

This almost ENCOURAGES me to procrastinate again... the feeling of such relief after feeling so shitty. The extreme down will end with an exteme up. If you know what I mean. Good and bad feelings are all relative... so if you feel a bad sensation, the next time you feel a good one it will be way stronger.

      Cheers,
      Dylan
