To answer the OP's thread question. Maybe. I say that because if it were a 25 year old male hitting on a 17 year old (kinda creepy) but that'd be more socially acceptable than a 17 year old boy dating a 25 year old woman. For starters, the 25 year old female is already out of college (while you've yet to go) and it's just different for a myriad of reasons which have been adequately laid out here. Just date 15 - 19 year old's for now bro. Leave the older women to older guys. You probably wouldn't know what to do with a full figured emotionally/mentally developed woman like that anyway. j/k with a hint of seriousness.

Actually, in some states, (like Alaska,) I could date a 44 year old and consumate our relationship. [I'm 17.]

In some states the same rule applies to 16 year olds. If you aren't sure about your particualr state, to be on the safe side here is a rule of thumb. 15-16 is one age bracket. 16-19 is another age bracket. 17-21 is another age bracket.

However, there are some states where sex period is illegal up until age 18.

It varies even more based on countries. Oh, and the laws change concerning homosexual relations.

I don't think he's asking if it's legal or not as much as if it is concievable. And personally, I think it's far more likely for a 29 year old to date a 21 year old than a 25 to a 17 year old...

When I was 20 I dated a 29 year old. Yeah I was a woman dating an older man and that's much more common than the other way around, but it could definitely work the other way as well. I have a few female friends who date considerably younger guys.

Well, here's the thing:

Women won't date younger men, but men can date younger women. Take me for example:

When I was 16, I asked out my sister's best friend, who was 25. She laughed and said no. But I know how women like it when you're persistent (it shows you are a man that goes after what he wants), so I kept pursuing her until my sister told me to stop. But do you think I did? Of course not! This man doesn't give up that easily!

And after about 3 more month of this, it all paid out. One day they both came back to my parents really really drunk, and thought it would be funny if she made out with me. Long story short, we did for about 2 minutes, then she had a little accident on the rug, cleaned herself up a bit, and then we made out for another 5 minutes or so.

So, yes, it's a lot harder when you're younger, but it can be done. You just have to be persistent!

On the other hand, I had been pursuing Laura, my current wife, for a while when I was in dental school (I was 22, she was 15 at the time). She didn't give me the time of day, but when I finally graduated and became a professional, suddenly she (and all her friends) were totally over me. In the end I married her and we had two beautiful children together, so that also goes to teach you that it can be done.

Erm, wrong. My second cousin dated and eventually became engaged to someone who was five years younger than herself. And that's just one example.
