      Glaucoma

New research has confirmed that extensive use of computers is so damaging to eyes it could lead to glaucoma, and in extreme cases blindness.

This is more probable in people who are already short-sighted, the research has also unveiled, because they are more likely to suffer from eye strain when using computers. Young males are also at risk, as there is a greater probability they will be heavy computer users.

The scientific studies, carried out by researchers at the Toho University School of Medicine, are based on 10, 000 Japanese workers. They have suggested the stress of using a computer puts pressure on the back of the eye causing damage to the optic nerve.

Over 500,000 people in the UK are already glaucoma sufferers and opticians recommend over-40s should be tested for glaucoma once every two years.

I'm most likely going to go blind some day or get laser surgery, so oh well. My eye sight's crappy anyway + astigmatism. Although I don't always remember to, you'll be okay if you give your eyes a rest every once in a while.

Yeah for colored contacts! (I wear evergreen colored ones, if you're curious)

Heh, I already had bad eyesight, although I was long-sighted. But...I could honestly say my eyesight has improved....

You know, I still found it odd. When I was young, tons of kids had to get glasses. I used the computer (most of them back when I was like 6 didn't know what they were) ALOT, I'd say 6 hours a day, (still do), and my eyes are fine. I mean I never see anything blurry or perception difference. Maybe I have "strong eyes"

For as long as I remember I've had "vision snow" which is basically a slight grainyness of vision and it sort of looks like your vision is coated with a semi-transparent layer of TV static/snow. It's the most visible when looking at dark objects. I've always wondered if this is caused by/worsened by TV and computer?

When I am reading E-books on the computer screen, I usually use a voice reader program to save my eyes. Programs like this works really great, in my opinion. Here is a free voice reader program in English:

      http://www.naturalreaders.com/download.htm

I use the free edition, and I really like it. No tired eyes. I recommend it!
      Are you dreaming?

the power of suggestion: as soon as I read this my eyes started to hurt a little from staring at my monitor for about 8 hours straight. I find that quite funny. And weak.
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...
