      Meditation for Beginners

I have lately been thinking about getting into meditation. I have looked around on the internet some, but found it rather confusing. There seem to be an endless amount of different techniques and much of what I found had to do with religion. I'm fine with my religion and I just want to use meditation to relax and clear my mind. Any techniques that are good for beginners or any websites with instructions for basic meditations?

Here is a quick meditation class for beginners. True it is a buddhist website, but the mediation is a common kind of meditation (breathing/mindfulness/insight) that many people from all walks of life commonly practice.

i've found that Guided Meditation tapes can really help someone who doesnt want any religious conflicts. I think dat theyre more like guided relaxation than actual meditation, but its a start.

Dick Sutphen has Self-Hypnosis Course recordings that can also put you in a very relaxed state. Kelly Howell is good too.

      both are non-faith based.

Meditation is great, absolutley awesome. If you're having a bad day and everything sucks, just meditate for a while and bam, you feel so fresh and clean and relaxed inside, and you stay that way for the rest of the day too. I find it just helps me actually appreciate the day, and appreciate life, and it doesn't have to be religious, you can use it when you want and as much as you want.
I've actually just got back into meditation, and I think that it could be very very helpful for lucid dreaming (I'm trying to get rid of the frustration of not LDing).

Yeah I definatley recommend meditation, and when it comes to meditation the Buddhists are experts.

A simple method I use is to sit comfortably in a quiet dark room and slowly count to 100 going along with your breathing, it's pretty similar to falling asleep and you can get some vivid visualisations. After reaching 100 you should be pretty damn relaxed, then just think about whatever it is you want to think about. By counting to 100 and blocking everything else out you really get focused and then you can get pretty deep inside your head and stuff.

But yeah, learn from the buh 8) ddists cuz those dudes know what's going on
