I suppose it depends on how receptive you are to the technique it employs, ie. It will be more effective for some users than others, in the same way that different lucid techniques work better for some than others.

NovaDreamer and similar masks are used to induce EILDs (Externally/Electronically Induced Lucid Dreams), that basically means they help inducing a lucid dream with an external (real world) aid, and not reality checks (DILD) or wake induced methods (WILD).

Some report they don't work that good, and most of the times spoil your dreams. Others have reported great success. I haven't succeeded with any blinking REM detector mask, but I think the idea is quite good. It's just the method (blinking LEDs) that don't work for everybody. I would suggest a vibrator alarm for example, or sounds.

Anyway, the masks may work for you but, they are too damn expensive. The novadreamer costs a shitload of money (approx. 230 bucks, and it's discontinued so it may cost double), and that's just for two infrared sensors and leds, two regular leds and a mirocontroller, that as components cost about 7-20 bucks. You can make one yourself, there are video guides for that, I cant post links because I am not yet a 7day member, but you can google those. Also as a cheaper choice you could consider "The REM Dreamer" which costs about 130 euro. But it's still too expensive so you might check a new mask which is far more advanced than any mask in the market, and just came out. It's called the "Remee" and costs about 90 bucks, and its the cheapest availiable today.

I suggest that you stick to traditional methods, like WILD which is tough as hell but equally rewarding, or DILD methods, with reality checks and stuff. If you still want to try EILDing though, I suggest you try making something of your own, preferably with sounds or vibrations. But if you till want the mask use the Remee, which is the cheapest and best choice. Another way of semi-EILDing is the CANWILD method, which will probably be the best choice for you, it's quick and great, like WILDing with cheats!

i heard about the remee but you dont have a sensor that sensing when my eyes flickering (and then the LED's should flashing)
how can I set the remee to the right moment that im dreaming, it has the same effective even without that?

This tells what it's about, and yes it has an infrared sensor plus many other features, like setting the flashing light patterns using your computer screen! Really cool mask, kinda worth buying, but I still insist on other methods, I once made one from a sleeping mask with timed LEDs. It hit me on REM, though it wasted my dream, as the blinking light distorted my imagery. If you combine it with DEILD though or use it more of a CANWILD-like aid, then it works with some practice. Tomorrow I am going to post a guide on building a simple DILD/EILD machine with only a vibrator motor from an old cell phone, an old pair of earplugs (don't waste new ones, just some with fried speakers that don't work anymore or sound like shit, we'll only need the coil), a battery and a transistor. I think that would be best and I'll explain myself more tomorrow, as I'll reply to this thread with my tutorial probably.

If you insist on the mask way though, Remee is THE choice. Look it up some more and you'll find out it's the best thing out there, as well as fresh and relatively affordable (if you were ready to buy a novadreamer which is 10 times worse and 5-10 times more expensive). It's also highly customizable and I believe it's open-source, because it's based on the arduino (ATmega 328P microcontroller). If you want an LD mask that badly, just go for it!

I'm working on the machine I was talking about all day. It has many bugs, but I might have finished it today

Yes it's a vibrating thing, which is interval timed to remind you reality checks AND trigger you to reality check while sleeping. Simple but special, you'll see why.
However if you are looking on a way to make your own MASK, here's a tutorial
