Autohypnosis Made Easy

Years ago I intuited the importance and potential of hypnosis in regards to helping me with my dream work, and so I made an appointment with a local hypnotist who came very highly recommended, mostly for her success with helping people to quit smoking and with over-eaters to make them less voracious at table.

I told her what I was looking for and so she offered that she could take me through a course of hypnosis and instruction that would give me the capability of being able to hypnotize myself – Auto-hypnotism.

These are some of the very important essentials that I learned:

First, the most basic thing to remember is that the mind is most receptive when it is calml and the body relaxed. So the most important key to success in Auto-Hypnosis is simply relaxing the body and quieting the mind.

Yes, of course, everybody already knew that. But here is a trick. One can make it so much easier to arrive at that essential deep level of relaxation by using one’s initial sessions of Auto-Hypnosis in order to suggest that one be able to relax and quiet one’s self almost immediately and on a trigger command. Ordinarily it might take one a number of minutes to fully relax. But if one takes the time to Auto-Suggest a rapid Relaxation in response to a pre-determined Trigger Phrase, then one can put one’s self into a highly suggestible trance state in a mere moment.

So, what my Professional Hypnotist taught me was to suggest on a backward count from 10 that I would be entirely relaxed and my Mind entirely quiet and open to the Auto Suggestion I had planned to give to myself, and then, immediately afterward, that I should come back to full alertness, refreshed and cheerful.

Now, yes, you can all go to a Professional Hypnotist and be instructed in about the same kind of Program. But you could do this yourself by yourself, if only you have a good sense for the principles involved and the confidence that you can set goals and achieve your objectives through well planned efforts and pointed acts of will. Trust yourself.

Also, do not go into the practice of Hypnotism with any false preconceptions. In many cases people expect that they will not consciously remember the Trance Phase of the Hypnotism session. Well, why shouldn’t you? One only be relaxed and calm. One may still be entirely alert. Or not. It hardly matters. You see, there is the distinction that can be made between Mind and Consciousness. We can understand Consciousness to be a kind of Light which allows us to see the Mind, or that part of the Mind in near proximity to the Light of Consciousness. But whether illuminated by consciousness or not, the Mind can be influenced by hypnotic suggestion equally well.

I tried this method after reading the post - its highly effective.

One of the reasons I had stopped attempting Auto-hypnosis was the amount of time it took to reach deep level relaxation.

Wow this sounds interesting and worht a try. So after you've counted back and relaxed. Are you supposed to do some auto suggestion hypnosis on what you want to complish during a lucid or just to have a lucid etc.?

I'm trying it for both those things. I'd be quite interested to know what Leo uses it for.

The success I mentioned is with the "Trigger Phrase". I've found that once I've programmed the Phrase during deep level relaxation, my body can return to this state almost immediately at another time.

When I tried this during my last WILD attempt, my body reached SP so quickly that it didn't really give my mind time to wander off. I was in a LD in a very short space of time, although it was fairly unstable.

Something I have noticed is that the effect of the Trigger Phrase fades after a few days, and needs to be re-programmed during deep level relaxation. Still, its well worth doing.

Yes, hypnosis is a great deal like the Placebo Effect... powerful, but for only about 72 hours. One has to take time every few days to keep the whole Suggestion System tuned up.

What do I use it for?

Well, you don't think being Leo Volont is easy, do you?

Well I did it last night but I didnt get a lucid although I have to say after the
emptying your mind and counting back and relaxing worked very well.
I was a total relaxation and comfort when I completed this, it was quite amazing!

Can someone tell me how to auto suggest? I think I programmed a trigger phrase last night. I just used it and let me just say that before I said it, I was pissed off about how a sophomore got a better part than me, a junior, in a play that I just auditioned for and after I said the trigger phrase, I was very calm. I wasn't relaxed, but I was very very calm. Am I doing it right?

Here's the basic idea:

Self-hypnosis/Auto-suggestion works most effectively if your body is deeply relaxed.

Normally, it will take quite a while to reach this state, through breathing and visualization. For example, for me to reach a deeply relaxed state, where I start experiencing sensations similar to SP, takes me 20 - 40 mins).

If you do this every day, it becomes quite time consuming. So Leo's idea is that, once you've spent time getting into a deeply relaxed state, you use auto-suggestion to programme your body to return that state much quicker in future. You do this with a Trigger Phrase.

I've been doing this as follows:

1. Enter a deeply relaxed state, by focussing on breathing, and using visualization (as outlined in the HILD tutorial).

2. Once your body is completely relaxed, tell yourself that to enter this exact state again, all you need to do is count down from ten and say a Trigger Phrase, for eg. "Trigger deep sleep", or something similar. You are basically telling your brain to take a "body photograph", which it must store as reference for next time you want to enter this state. You can repeat this step a few times.

3. The next day, when you want to enter deep level relaxation again, you simply lie down, count back from ten and say your trigger phrase. Your body will reach deep relaxation very quickly.


That's basically it. The affect of this technique only lasts for a few days, and then you will have to "re-programme" it - but it does save a lot of time!

Great piece of information on Self-Hypnosis. Too bad you were banned, eventhough you were kind of a jackass Leo. At least you were a very wise, Philosophical and Genius jackass. My favourite jackass.

And indeed. As I have read more about Hypnosis it came to more and more how simple it is. To put it in a Nutshell:

Yoou CAN reach a very deep state of Relaxation, Enlightenment, even the fullblown Dreamstata of Mind, as long as you are convinced you can.
They often say:'' You CAN do it, only if you believe you Can'' But many people found that to be kind of a Illusive, Negative Line so let me Turn it Around in a Positive, lucidity tupe of way:
If you are Convinced you can, then you CAN do it.

This is THE key-line for Autu-hypnosis actually. Just think of all your Lucid Dreams: You Knew you could do it, so you did it again. Easy. And only when you know that you can, and therefor REALLY believe you can, you actually CAN do it. Do it.

You need to Illiminate the Obstacles that stop you from getting there: Disbelief, lack of Confidence. When you think ''It's ONLY possible when I believe it is and I have a real hard time Convincing myself'' then actually THAT is the very Obstacle that keeps you from reaching your Desired state of Mind with help of AutoSuggestion.

Hypnosis is just the sheer power of Belief. And you need to be more open to all that becomes possible when you get rid of ''thinking-bariers'', cuz when it comes to these spiritual things trying to reach certain states of Mind at will i.e. THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS YOU FROM SUCCEEDING IS YOU NOT BELIEVING IN YOURSELF. You in Lucid Dreams I have a full 100% DreamControl because I KNOW this is MY Dream and that therefor I can change it to my likings'' I am drenched with confidence in myself because I KNOW and Believe it is possible. So get rid of the Disbelief, somehow, and it suddenly IS possible. Whatever didn't seem to be possible before.Knowing that, and that many people have succeeded like that, should get rid of your disbelief gradually as your Mind starts to comprehend it.

exactly. Sort of that henry ford quote. Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right. This is especially true in LD's and auto-hypnosis. Great piece of info. :yumdumdoodledum:
