Thread: Testing Placebos.

Okay I know how powerfull Placebo can work.
Therefor I'm going to try a Placebo on a friend of mine who is into Lucid Dreaming lately.

I think I will give him a Capsule with something like Ginkgo Biloba or another herb with no significant effects and I'll tell him it is a mixture of compressed dream herbs that I made and that I've tried it with great success every 4 times I've tried it. Since I cannot fool myself this way, obviously, but I CAN fool him with this completely he is the perfect test subject to find out how powerfull Placebo can work. Another factore might be how Suggestable people are; how open they are to your suggestions. This would work best on the most gullable people.

Any one of you interrested in fooling friends for the sake of Lucid Science? Let me know.

It also might reduce or eliminate the effectiveness of the substance you give him in his lucid dreaming endeavors. But I guess it's worth a shot.

Yeah I'm going to tell him afterwards I was trying to do some finding out as to how effective the Placebo effect can work. He knows me and has the same spiritual and artistic kind of interrests. He will not distrust me in the future, he'll understand. We have a very tight bond of trust between us. That should be okay.

All I wanna do is find out how strong the Placebo effect can work..or not. Which this will point out a little clearer.

And I'll try to do it like this:
I'll tell him NOT that I have ''the lucid pill combination of herbs''. Instead I will tell him I mixed up a couple of extremely potent DreamEnhancing herbs and some stimulants that will give him rediculously vivid, clear and Conscious Dreams. I'll tell him that I've done it 8 times and 7 out of the 8 times it worked miracles for me. I'll also tell him that on 5 of the 8 occassions I had Lucid Dreams since it would supposedly be much easier to pick up on Lucidity in these Clear, realistic and vivid dreams. That sounds very promising and isn't pushing the sp;ecific effects too far. It's more giving him alot more Faith that Lucidity will be much easier attained tonight.

I don't know when I'll see him again. Maybe I'll call him on wednesday and decide my placebo plan before that time.

Maybe some of you people who have also gotten friends into Lucid Dreaming can try a similar Placebo test with them as well. More participants, more accurate results.

Actually I have told some of my friends into LD'ing about some techniques, and when I told them about it I said it was "practicly 100%". my reasoning was that what they don't know can't hurt them. But it still didn't work.

I would expect the actual supplements to have a more solid foundation since its something tangible.

Maybe, but then I would have to hope they didn`t find this thread.

I can have quite an effect on people
Nice idea, but as mentioned, the rub is that the effect only lasts as long as the illusion.
I'd love to hear the results though. Should be amusing.

Oh, and you have to adapt what you say to the person.
Eg. a skeptical person won't fall for the '100%' thing
But your plan of what to say sounds reasonable and do-able.
