Weird Expierence: My First Lucid Dream

in my dream I'm sittin down on my bed and my sister is on the computer across the room. I'm talking to her when all of a sudden i see my cat that has been dead for about a year now scratching on my arm. when i see this in my dream, my sister turns arround and says "Travis, your dreaming." I look at my hands only to see that they are distorted and it confirms that i am dreaming. before doing anything i suddenly wake up i a room and explain to the person in the room that i had my first lucid dream and that i'm pissed because it didn't last, thinking that i'm awake when really i'm still dreaming. after this i continue normal dreaming. i've been attempting lucid dreams for about a week now and this is the first thing i had thats come close to a real lucid dream. Is this a good start? and what is your take on what happened?

you are on the right track. you finally realized that you are dreaming. now the next step is controlling it. that should be your next goal as well as becoming more lucid in your dreams as this has been your first. just keep practicing.
