Thread: borrowed someone's reality test

i don't know. it was just really strange. i had a feeling i was dreaming, and normally i keep my reality test in my wallet (i use a piece of paper with the numbers 1-10 written on it) and when I went to check i couldn't find it. i was looking all through my wallet when this guy came up to me and handed me a small piece of cardboard with the numbers 11 3 11 3333 written on it (i'm pretty sure those were the numbers) and then walked off. So i used that as the reality test and i was indeed dreaming. that's never happened to me before. it really felt like someone else was LD'ing somewhere too and saw that i couldn't find my reality test and let me borrow theirs. it struck me as very odd, i've never lost my reality test before (in waking life or in a dream) and i've certainly never had someone hand me one in a dream.

I think the important thing was did you do the reality test and did it fail successfully?

heh, what an awesomely contradictory but perfectly sensible question, "did it fail successfully?" well, yes it did. the numbers changed to something like 77 3 113. It looked to be a much used reality test, the cardboard was very heavily worn, and the numbers had a scratch horizontally through them, like from a lot of creasing or something. actually, it looked like it had been written on an empty checkbook, you know how when you are out of checks there is still the holder thing that sticks out from the top, it had one of those.

Do you always have those numbers in your wallet? If so, then you can also take it as a reality check to see if that piece of paper is still in there. If it's not, you're dreaming.

Alas, no lucids, so I couldn't have loaned you an RC. I probably would have told you to hold your nose and breathe, otherwise.

Yes, i do always have them in my wallet. But when i couldn't find them I thought that maybe i had been cleaning out my wallet and misplaced them. the numbers are always my fail-safe test, i like to be absolutely certain i am dreaming before i jump off a building, lol.
