Cool First LD when I had given up hope

I've never had a LD in my entire life (I'm now 27)... well, until this morning.

The only thing I had achieved a few times, years ago, was to come back after slightly waking up in a regular dream for a while, because I thought the story was interesting, but that's all.
But this morning, I've been luckier.

So, someone using a vacuum cleaner next to my flat woke me up (not nice), but I managed to go back to sleep somehow (the noise is still there as I write).

I wasn't dreaming before waking up (in fact, I've had so much trouble remembering regular dreams since many years that I nearly gave up on even trying to remember them, so you see, I wasn't very hopeful to have a LD one day), but I felt myself falling into a dream, and as I was still a little conscious, I thought, "why not try to fly?" (my guilty pleasure in dreams).

And then, I sort of felt myself coming out of my body, floating, and the dream started! I flied above sunny streets and then entered a house where there were lots of DC, conscious that I was dreaming and thinking "this is cool, I can do whatever I want, quick!!!"

So I tried to do as many things as I could very quickly to prove myself that I indeed could: I flied another time, been very naughty with a DC , crossed a window pane/wall (thinking before to encourage myself "come on, you can, because it's only a dream"). On this last thing, a lot of old DC where around me when I did this, and I thought they would freak out, as if I was a ghost, but they didn't react so I was disappointed. I know, I'm mean.
EDIT: I forgot, I also swam in the swimming pool of the house (where I landed lol) and breathed under water, that was awesome!

It didn't last very long but I'm kinda proud of myself because I managed to lengthen it by doing RC at 2 different times (I looked at my hands and spinned around, the third attempt didn't work though, I finally woke up) just because I wanted these 2 celebrities to appear in my dream but my subconscious took its time to get it.

I screamed their names again and again, looked around for them while mentally scowling at my subconscious, and at the end of the dream, they finally appeared (even if their bodies were slightly odd-looking, like a little smaller, that was weird, like my subconcious made them in a hurry )!
And I made out with one of the two... (but lost lucidity while doing it, then the RC didn't work and I woke up, a little frustrated lol)

I'm happy with my first LD, especially considering the fact that I thought it would never happen.

      Never say never!

By the way, I don't know if it helped, but before going to bed, I had listened to some isochronic tones.

I hope I'll have more LDs! I need to improve my lucidity though. I mean, I was lucid but I had to fight to keep a good level of lucidity, and I'm sure it can be 100 times better than this.

I find that when you take a break, you get lucids. Don't get too serious and caught up in lucid dream. Yes, try. But don't go crazy over it. The more relaxed and positive you think about it, the easier it will be. If you think you'll get a lucid, really believe it, you'll most likely get one.

I think that's what happens to the most experienced LD'ers (I am still a beginner, I have a loooong way to go before I can say i'm experienced). They start getting very regular lucids, and get to the stage where they believe, every single night, that they will get a lucid. And so they do, and can relax more. It's like a cycle

I think you're right. In my case, I've been a lurker of this forum, reading everything that could help me to lucid dreaming for weeks but I felt like there was no improvement. I guess I was wrong, I just needed to relax and not focus so much on LD, and when I did my LD, I even thought to do RCs, like, naturally. I'm happy!

You have a pretty Light icon by the way!

      Thank you

And what have you been doing to induce lucids so far? You may not be doing anything wrong, it could just be stressing out about it. But you could be doing too much.

I tried to keep a journal for my regular dreams first, but it didn't really work, as I've really had trouble remembering them lately.
During the day, I often do some RCs (mostly looking at my hands and asking myself if I'm dreaming), and I regularly listen to relaxing music, binaural beats before going to bed (with the mantras "I'm going to remember my dreams and realise that I'm dreaming"), and I also regularly read some threads about lucid dreaming (tales or techniques) but that hasn't really worked too.
      Well, until today. ^^

Kind of the same thing happened some days ago to me as well. Whenever I have a dream, I write up some keywords on my mobile a little after I wake up, then I use the keywords to write down detailed dreams in my DreamJournal program on the computer. Some days ago, I had just written down the keywords on my mobilephone but skipped over using the keywords to write the dreams down on my pc. I decided 2 days ago, I had to focus more on recalling before trying to lucid dream, since my dreams just got less and less vivid, so I wrote down the previous dreams on my pc, and then focused only on recalling, then I had a lucid dream.

Dream journalling: Try and write as much detail down as possible. Really try and visualise the surroundings and what was going on as you recall it. I find that DJing really, really increases my chances of LDing.

RCing: Only RC when something strange happens. Very rarely will you ever randomly RC in a dream, so it's better to get into the habit of RCing when something wierd happens to you. There are so many strange things in dreams and RCing helps you catch them.

I also recommend WBTBs and MILD. WBTB increases your chances of lucid dreaming by 60%. MILD/DILD is how I got my first LD. Be confident that you will lucid dream.

Remember, above all, don't force it, just focus on it Good luck, I hope that this breakthrough gives you more lucid dreams.

Kling> I think I need to focus on recalling too. Sure it'll help to have more LDs and more vivid ones. ^^

      Raspberry> thanks for the advice!!!
      But what do you do when you are losing lucidity in a LD? Spinning around (I had found it weird when I had read it somewhere lol but it...) worked for me but there are certainly better techniques? ^^;;;;

This is actually something I need to work on too. I can get lucid, it's just staying there. I shout out stuff like "Increase lucidity!" and make sure I stabilise the dream before I take off exploring. Rubbing your hands also helps. Try and engross yourself in your senses. Smell things, touch things, but remind yourself that you are dreaming. It helps me.

But I find that the better I get at getting lucid, my dreams naturally get longer and improve in clarity

I heard that although spinning is good, most of the time it causes you to change dream scenes.
