      Is there a dream language?

I was just wondering cause I have been in dreams that aren't lucid but the weird text in the dream makes sense. But when I'm lucid if I try to read things, they're just random symbols?

      Any ideas?

I'm guessing that even though the text doesn't make sense, your mind gets an idea of the meaning behind it anyway. You might read a sign that says "~+..3AC^O=o" and get the idea in your mind that it said it's a fire exit. The connection that would exist in real life between the letters and the translation in your brain to what they mean, isn't needed in a dream, because your mind is making it all up anyway. It can show you random text, and then put the idea of what it means in your mind, without the intermediate steps.

When you're lucid, you're more aware of everything and actually make a relatively strong conscious attempt to make sense of the symbols, which of course doesn't work because they don't make sense.
