      vividness?

I've had a few LD's since I've started playing around with this stuff (this morning, I tried flying for the first time, and it was super easy). But I've always found them to be disappointingly short, and not all that great... Laberge's book describes all kinds of Euphoric experiences and such... What determines how close we come to achieving that? Is it just the induction method? Like, is WILD just that much better? (all my LD's so far were generic "i think i'm dreaming, better RC to make sure"-induced).

Quite appropo! Indeed, some 70 years ago when Carl Jung was categorizing dreams he quite ignored the distinction of Lucidity, apparently as of not too great importance, and differentiated only between ordinary dreams and Big Dreams which he distinguished by their Vividness.

Often Vivid Dreams will bring along Lucidity in their wake, as though the addition of greater Conscious Energy would automatically push past some threshold of Awareness in which lucidity can more or less be taken for granted, if it be necessary at all in the context of the Big Dream.

But now that we have so many techniques for achieving Lucidity, it is common to be able to force Lucidity upon even our lesser and weaker dreams... like using a Whip and a Chair in order to tame a house cat.

The real question now becomes what we can do to increase the Baseline of this Conscious Energy which fuels our Big Dreams -- our Vivid Dreams. In this regard I would recommend the various Yogic Systems -- the best would be the Systems of the Shaktipat Gurus (those who can initiate people at a touch -- turning on their chakras and giving them the first shot of energy... like one log on fire starting a flame in a new log) and then there are the Prana Energy Gurus -- those who teach how to acquire Energy by optimizing the Breath and through breathing exercises. Breathing exercises can be dangerous for two reasons -- often people experiment with to extreme modes of breath retention -- because it induces light-headedness which feels like a High, but it can make one pass out and break one's head and teeth (as me how I know), or that the Gurus themselves will teach these extreme methods, supposing that that is what they get paid for, rather than for being simply good coaches who will keep his people safe while guiding them forward. Amoung the Shaktipat Gurus, a Guru will either be able to open up your Chakras, or he won't be able to open up your chakras, and in both cases, no harm is done.

Then there is the possibilty (only a possibility, since I was not able to do this myself) of opening one's own Chakras. But I can give some advice here. The Upanisads have a passage that says "in the presence of a God or Saint, the Agna Chakra will open". Now, that would be a slight sensation in one's forehead, up about an inch from the brow and a bit back inside the head. When the passage says :"God or Saint" what it actually is referring to is another person who is walking around with his Chakras already open. There are more of these people around than we may at first suspect. So if one hears of a Guru visiting one's town, or one hears of a particularly holy person giving a talk, or even that some Yoga Instructor is well spoken of, all one needs to do is get in the same room and see if one feels anything. If one does, then the trick becomes holding onto that sensation. Remember, it is not a strong sensation, but it is there, and it is perceptable. One must hold it there and be able to make it stronger with ones will. If it entirely goes away, one must be able to bring it back up. One may use Pyramid Power. You know what Pyramid Power is, don't you? Anything pointy. Point a ballpoint pen into the Chakra works fine, in fact it works better than a scale model of the Giza Pyramid because, what, it is pointier.

You can also do the 24 count exercise. Start at the tail bone of the spine and count to 24, one increment for each bone in the spine, until one arrives at the head. Repeat a few times.

So, though I have not done it, I concede the possibility of one being able to 'hound dog" one's own Initiation into this Energy Yoga. Please, if anybody ever succeeds in this, let me know. I'd be curious to find out that it works. And I can also give you a few more tips if you can get that far.

When one drinks a great deal of water, it assures that the dreamer will solidly awake at the end of each REM Cycle so as to get up and relieve himself. If one does not drink a great deal of water, there is the possibility that one will move from REM cycle directly into Deep Sleep without registering the Dream into Conscious Memory as is done when one wakes from a Dream.
