      Fear in lucid dream

Every time I experience a lucid dream and want to do something crazy such as fly off a window or anything like that, I begin to fear that even though everything is just a dream what if it isn't? and I loose my lucidity at that point. "You may think you can fly but you better not try" - there is even a song like that

Does anyone know any techniques for overcoming concious fear inside a dream?

well the only way to find out if you can is to try..and besides..why fear..it's all a dream...your dream..your control..your place...so make it what you want

well what i do is steadily do reality checks, this way you know that theres no way you can breathe out of your nose, also i used to experience that all the time, now i can do psycho stuff without reality checks, because if you just stand and try and focus on your senses youl see how different it really is, also you have to say somethin g like "how did i get here?"

i think that you start losing your lucidity at the point you start fearing what could happen. if you really know its a dream, you wont get hurt. maybe commanding yourself to increase the level of lucidity would work?

First, you should be using the dream to overcome the fears, and at that point, they are sub-concious fears. You should exploit the fact that you feel afraid to realize you are dreaming. Second, just have a back up plan and tell yourself it's going to work. If you are lucid, execute the back up plan.

Once, I was driving, and a rat, about the size of my car jumped on the hood so I started swerving to try to shake it off. This was on curvy, coastal highway. The rat blocked the entire windshield, I made a sharp turn right instead of left. I went careening off the cliff towards the ocean. I was lucid in this dream.

My back up plan was to take my head out of my t-shirt, and leave it extended on my arms to act as a parachute. It didn't work, but when I hit the water and went speeding all the way to the bottom of the ocean, I saw dirt puff up around me, but I just stayed there for several seconds before the dream ended (I wasn't dead and I knew it).
