India is close, but not quite. You're a few thousand miles off. Shisar is a type of Japanese daemon (like a naga--half man, half snake). It's weird, but in ancient Japan, they would carve Shisar out of clay to scare away other daemons, even though the Shisar were just as scary and nasty a daemon. It's rare that a Shisar that was summoned was male, though. Usually the females were the ones that responded to mortal summons. I could be wrong in my interpretation of that, though. I couldn't find much information on them. What I found was written in Japanese, and I can't read Japanese very well.

Also, you mentioned that you thought you had heard it in the waking world. Well, you have. Shisar was also the name of a snake-type of race on Kunark in EverQuest (I suspect that Verant took the name from Japanese mythology. If not, it's a weird coincidence).
