My most interesting lucid experience (so far)

I'm going to let this post serve as my introduction to the forums, since I can never think of what to say in an actual intro post. I'm the diving type. For a little extra background, I've only had 5 lucid dreams. 2 were several years ago and nothing very substantial. 2 more were this year and still not much, but they led up to the one, the most recent, that I'm recounting now. I had not practiced any induction techniques prior to these, and I have stopped for reasons I can explain later. And yes, I became interested in lucid dreaming after watching Inception

It's May of this year. I'm working the night shift so I sleep during the day. I wake up around 7 o'clock one evening and decide to stay in bed a while longer, since I don't start work until 11. I'm just laying there and thinking, and for some reason my thoughts drift towards something to do with a friend at work. As I'm thinking about this, I close my eyes and after some amount of time this odd feeling comes over me. As odd as it is, however, I recognize what is happening right away and tell myself to stay calm.

It begins with a visual of what I can only describe as a crackling orb of white light, like what you see inside of a plasma globe. I feel as though I'm falling away from my body, but at the same time I can feel a new body, my dream body, forming in a standing position. I can't see it, but I can move it, so I wave my right arm around. Then, I wonder whether or not this is actually happening or if I'm just laying in bed flapping around, so I somehow manage to pull myself out of this state enough to feel my body as a dead weight in my bed. I go back in and now I am seeing nothing but a grey "formlessness." Or a formless greyness; I'm not sure which makes the most sense.

However, I can see several curving lines running through it. They are grey as well, and are more like bands that have vertical lines like notches on them. Then suddenly, my dream world forms. I put that in italics because it's as if one second I am looking at two dimensions, like a wall, and then there's a sort of "folding" into three.

I am in an old-fashioned hardware store, sort of like the one from Home Improvement. There are a lot of empty shelves around me, and these are like what you would see in a Wal-Mart, where I work at the time. Immediately I go a little overboard and decide I'm going to try to telekinetically hurl these shelves across the store. So I start swinging both my arms in the direction I want the shelving unit to go. I succeed only in smashing them like a hammer and shoving them several feet at a time. This action must have been too much, because the dream world shimmered and I woke up. The last thing I remember is seeing one of my projections staring at me from the corner of my eye.

I went back to sleep with unbroken lucidity, but I fell asleep during this second dream and cannot remember anything about it.

It's not so much the content of this dream that I'm interested in, but how I came to it. From what I understand, this was a Wake Initiated Lucid Dream, and is pretty rare. I haven't had a true lucid dream since.

What do you think of this? Does it indicate anything to you? I have some ideas that I've developed from my limited experience, but I feel I've gone as far as I can on my own.

Welcome to the forums! I'm pretty new here myself.

It's good that you got used to all the sensations of a WILD, it can be scary for some people, but this is definitely a big step in the right direction.

Next time you become lucid, try to stabilize the dream and increasing your lucidity. Look close up at your hand, move around, or eat something crunchy. Doing these things will heighten your awareness and ultimately let you stay in the dream for longer. You can also use these techniques to prolong a dream that is about to end.

I would definitely recommend going for more WILDs since you have done one already. WILDs seem to be the most successful method out of all of them. You should check out some of the tutorials here on the forum.

      Good luck!

Awesome first post! Sounds like a WILD or OBE. Which do you all prefer to call it?
