      Was this Lucid Dreaming?

Well I gave Lucid dreaming a try for the first time and what I got was kind of freaky. Someone had posted a link to this forum and a recording in which I listened to while taking a nap. I followed the instructions of the voice very carefully using all my concetration. After a while I almost felt like I couldn't move and I got this dark image that almost looked like one of those... small telescopy type things that reflect the light around and show shapes (like diamonds) and spin when you look into them.. something scope? (Oh how I would love to remember what the hell they are called). Well I was starring at it for about 6-10 seconds and all of a sudden I lost the image and just went back to blackness. Is this Lucid Dreaming or was I seeing some sort of.. reflection in my eye .. or something..

The main reason I am interested in the concept of Lucid Dreaming is that I am a Animation Student.. And I thought maybe I could get inspiration from my dreams and maybe possibly animate them.

Hiya, RN, and welcome to DreamViews!

Nice avatar! Some of the folks here have been looking for new emoticons for the forum -- I'm thinking your skills could come in handy in this area.

      A kaleidoscope, perhaps?

Anyway, that doesn't sound like you were actually lucid dreaming, but perhaps you were experiencing the hypnogogic imagery (HI) that is one of the "symptoms" of entering a lucid dream through the WILD technique. That means you were close.

Lucid dreams are pretty much like any other dream on the surface -- you are in some sort of situation, often with other people (dream characters, or DCs) -- the only difference is that you know that it's a dream while you are still dreaming.

I highly suggest you look over all the materials on the main DreamViews web site, and then browse through the Tutorials section. This will give you a good overview of lucid dreaming, and some ideas for how to induce lucid dreams for yourself.

I am actually building a downloadable emoticon pack for our website http://www.joint-productions.com But the emoticons are the same size as my avatar and
more so designed for MSN, but of course they could be used in forums.. I haven't tried shrinking them down yet.
