My control over myself is amazing though. I can sometimes even endow myself with powers to do things. Usually my subconscious gives me a task (get people over glacier) and I have to find a way to solve it. In that scenario, if I concentrated really hard, I could move the pieces of the glacier.
So, is it control or awareness that defines a lucid dream?
Lucid Dreaming is classically defined as only one thing -- knowing that one is dreaming when one is dreaming. "Control" was just some promotional hoopla that got added to the mix by authors and promoters of Weekend Seminars.
Just take a look at some of these Essays which discuss the Lucid Dreaming State of the Art: http://www.sawka.com/spiritwatch/tableof.htm
My first Dreaming Guru, the author of "Dream Power", Dr. Ann Faraday, was also a bit guilty of passing along the hype about absolute control being an element of Lucid Dreaming; but look at her most recent Essay, "The Selling of the Senoi" ( http://www.sawka.com/spiritwatch/selling.htm ) she discusses that the original research into Lucid Dreaming was exaggerated and even falsified in order to create a popularity buzz. Promises were made that were supported with purely fictional accounts.
Everyone really needs to read through those essays and evaluate their own experiences (why does everyone but me have absolute control?) and understand that we all need to get away from the blurbs passed down by the profit-makers and begin to discuss what Lucid Dreaming really is.
