Thread: song writing in dreams

HI rexle I have done what are you are talking about. A few months ago in my dream, I saw some sheet music on a piano. I went lucid for some reason and tired so hard to memorize the notes on the sheet music so i could play them when i woke up. I woke up and i wrote them right down. The tune is freaaaky, but sounds nice. IF you have aim or msn, I can send it to you, its only a few notes long.

thats cool. you don't have to give me the sheet music i was just wondering if it was possible to learn or write songs in you dreams and then remeber them when you wake up.

If I could remember some of the music in my dreams, I'd be rich!

I've written two songs in my dreams, but never have been able to remmeber them. Moreover, there's often very good (ORIGINAL!) popular music playing in my dreams. My brain somehow just makes it up and it sounds so amazing.

Actually there is one song I remember from a dream that I was able to notate. I made a MIDI of it. It was a song that was the opening number from my brain's version of the musical "RENT". Very simple, but very moving.

Great topic. I have done this several times. Its lucid dreaming at its most productive for me. And whats great about it is how easy it is. I just "listen" to music playing out of a dream speaker and sit there and memorize it. Its like stealing music from myself! And the I force myself awake and run to a piano, and there I have it. Composing in a dream state is incredible. Ive always wanted to, and have yet to, surround myself with an orchestra or a band and have them play my thoguhts for me. On my to do list.

Im am musician and I have tried to play the guitar when luciding. The sensation was a bit funny, I made a riff which I didnt really like, and though I tried to play other chords the same riff kept on going... so I stopped. Im gonna try the piano next time

I make electronic music, and i often put stuff down onto minidisc and has done so for many years. I use to flip through my md discs in my dreams and put them on. It's always music thats totally new to me, but it's definately in my style! Track titles are fun as well, i remember there was one track that i loved that was called "you always say goodbye", which made me laugh when i read it, cause thats not a typical track title for me to come up with..
It's cool that the brain can build up complex music in stereo and full detail. I'd like a machine that could do that

i play drums. do you think it would be possible to mybe take drum lessons from neil peart in my dreams and be able to use the lesson in real life.

I am a musician too. I m always dreaming that I have a live concert or that I am composing an epic melody. But I can hardly remember something in the morning

If could remember the music i m dreams and play them, omg.... THEY ARE SO COOL! I have once but it sounded beter in my dream.

It's true! I haven't had a 'proper' Lucid Dream before, but sometimes when I WILD, I (or my brain) comes up with some fantastic pieces, mostly classical. I start off with a simple tune, sometimes one that's been done before; if you know the theme tune to the Great Escape, that's one of them.

Then it just builds up and up, adds extra layers, completely new sections, and generally evolves...

The cool thing is that I really understand the music... There may be more than five different instruments going at the same time, yet I know what every individual one is playing...

I feel like Mozart.

I once heard this increadibly good Drum n Bass song in my dream, drums were tight and punchy, bassline was monumental, synths were blazin, rastafarian vocals blasting it was pure madness at 170 bpm too bad it left me a few seconds after, I only remember how good it sounded now.

When i listen to my own music in dreams, the tracks often give me a feeling of some kind of beautiful doom. There are deep bass lines synced with brooding clock sounds, fast paced drum rhythms that go all over the place. The harmony always amazes me.
I also remember one track that had a fast jazzy piano going, sounding improvised. Then the sound of a subway car coming closer panned into stereo and that sound somehow smashed a sharp jungle break onto the listener. Then the piano track turned completely, into a really heartbreaking classical style piece that worked sooo well with the fast jungle break. I woke up with my heart in my throat, completely extatic. I still remember the track and i'm definately going to try and make it.

That sounds really awesome, good luck, cuz I can never recreate the songs from my dreams, but than again, I haven't tried in a while.

Do you think it's possible that the mind is sometimes just producing a simple melody that you're hearing, but at the same time your brain is releasing a bunch of chemical feelings (love, romance, beauty, relaxation) that's just making you feel like you just heard an amazing song after you've woken up that you may not remember, but really it was just some simple harmonics that your brain convinced you were pleasing to listen to?

Definitly, and in most cases I'd say that is true (probably in my case). The thing is, when u wake up and wanna recreate the song, ur recreating the feeling, so regardless if the song was simple or not in ur head, if you recreate the feeling, you essentially have just created a very good song, c wat I mean? sounds a little confusing, I know.

No way. Definately not. Maybe there are chemicals that create these feelings that helps get into it, but since ive taken music with me from dreams, and like them just as much when I wake, I believe in the power.Its just like when you're awake and can come up with great music in your head. Only in your dreams you're in your head so you can hear it out loud.

I don't specifically concentrate on writing songs, but several songs have appeared in the last couple of nights.

One, my oldest brother turned into the vocalist from Marcy Playground, and had just written a song to deal with the death, in the dream, of his one and a half year old son. It made a lot of sense too, I really only remember the first line about him being freed by his son's death.

Then, just last night I had a dream where a girl started free styling about the Men in Black. I did not really pay too much attention to it though.

However, if I wanted to write songs, I would probably ask my subconscious or "higher mind" to give a dream that will provide me direction as far as the subject matter of the song.

Composing music in my dreams is a thing i would really like to do. I have to attain lucidity first though. Any of you actually summoned an orchestra?

That would be awesome... imagine being able to control a whole orchestra at once. Sometimes it makes you wonder how your subconscious mind controls all these things while you dream.
