      A Lucid Existence

      Introduction

I had this series of dreams over a span of four hours(waking time) early Sunday morning. The dream spanned an entire day. (dream time)

I’ve shortened it quite a bit and removed many of the things I felt were not relevant to the core concepts.

It was an extraordinary dream and spoke to me on so many levels. I thought I would share it with all of you.

Part 1: All life is precious

I found my wife and myself sitting in an observation deck near the top of a very large skyscraper. It was a strange observation deck. It was as if someone had just removed the outer walls of the building on one floor.

Hmmm, I thought, this is a dream, I performed several reality checks, all failed, but I knew it was a dream. It just felt like it. This is strange, something amiss. I decided I would just go along with the flow and see where this one was going to take me and see what I was going to learn.

It was a warm summer day and a mild breeze was blowing. Since the observation deck was hollowed out into the side of the building, it provided ample shade to get away from the sun. The sky was blue and cloudless; it was that almost painful shade of Robin’s Egg blue that is common to almost all of my dreams. The sun was bright and the air was extremely clear.

There was no furniture in the deck, no telescopes, no safety rails. One could fall to their death very easily.
The floor was covered with a tumbling mat. If you’ve ever taken gymnastics or wrestling, you will know what I am talking about. The nice mats that are springy and comfortable to sit on. Leading down from one corner was a set of stairs. These went down the outside of the building to the ground below.

As I was sitting, observing all around me, I noticed a small boy, maybe four years old with blonde hair and big blue eyes. He wore a very sweet and peaceful smile. He was also fascinated with looking over the edge of the deck to the water below.

The building was so high that I got a sense of vertigo every time I approached the edge, you know, that ‘suck you over the edge’ feeling you get when you are too close to a cliff. It was difficult for me to even approach the edge.

His parents were nowhere to be found, it seems he was here on his own. I couldn’t let the little guy fall over the edge. I crawled up to him and pulled him back from the edge. Although he never spoke to me, he did smile as if to say, “What are you doing? I won’t get hurt”.

“I can’t let you get hurt”, I told him, “All life is precious.”

I awoke at this point and immediately started to MILD, I had to see where this was going.

Part 2: Love is the key.

I found myself back on the observation deck, my wife was gone, but the little boy was still there, still by himself. This time, he was near the edge, rocking back and forth. The mat shifted every time he rocked. It seems he didn’t realize that he was going to shift the mat too far and send everyone crashing to his or her death.

I placed my hand on his shoulders and said “Come on, let’s go find something to do”. He looked up, got to his feet, and took my hand. The whole time, love was beaming forth from his smiling face. I wondered about him. Why was he here? He was in such good health and was so nice and well behaved. He had obviously been brought up well and been taught to love.

We left the deck and went inside to an arcade of some sort. The same mat was on the floor here also. There was some kind of game like dodge ball. On person would stand on one side of the room, the second person would stand at the opposite wall and throw the ball at the first person. The number of hits determined what kind of prize was won.

I stood still, one hand guarding my privates and one near my face. The boy threw balls at me, and even though he came close a few times, he was unable to hit me. He kept the same radiant smile on his face. It did not matter that he didn’t win a prize, all that mattered was that someone took the time to give and receive his love.

I woke again and immediately began MILDing once more.

Part 3: Reality is what you make it. Keep your center.

I found myself back on the observation deck. The boy was gone, but my wife was back and sitting beside me. We were watching the boats and craft that were on the water below us. It was still the warm summer afternoon. The water craft came in all shapes and designs, many modeled after animals.

“Look at that one”, I said to my wife, “See the two structures on he side, they remind me of a manta ray”. The boat immediately changed into a manta and dove beneath the surface.

“Look”, my wife said, “That one, see the sail? Looks like a shark”. The ship turned into a shark and dove beneath the waves.

Reality is what you make it.

A little while later, we began looking around trying to figure out exactly where we were. I would have sworn we were in Chicago. It looked just like the downtown loop area. I looked to my right, and…
There was Manhattan? How in the world did that get there? Well now I’m lost. I was seeing Manhattan from the south? But that’s impossible; I was on dry land near the top of a huge skyscraper. If I were seeing Manhattan from this vantage, I would have to be in the middle of the ocean.
I didn’t take too long to ponder this, the dream faded. It was only many hours later that I realized that it was not really important that I know where I am. All that is important is for me to keep my thoughts and emotions in perfect balance and to find and keep my equilibrium. If reality is truly subjective, it is essential to keep your center so that you have an anchor point.

Once again, awake. I made a quick trip to the bathroom and upon my return to bed, began MILDing once more.

      Part 4: The awakening

I found myself once more with my wife on the observation deck. Everything looked as it did before, except. I felt that I was no longer dreaming. All of my reality checks failed, but I knew I was no longer in a dream. The dreamlike character of the dream was gone and I was observing everything with perfect mental clarity. The colors and sensations were as powerful as in any highly lucid dream, but I new I was fully awake.

My wife and I turned our attention to the sky; there were clouds moving in, and also flocks of birds. As we lay there, the flocks of birds would first change into geometric shapes. The flock immediately to our left changed into a group of interlocked hexagons and moved away. The clouds would change from cirrus, to nimbus, and then disappear.

Large, jet-black rifts floated by, but inside each of these rifts were the most striking and beautiful strokes of colors. Contained within each were dynamic and vibrant purples, reds, blues, and greens. We both sat and looked with amazement as they moved slowly sailed by.

I focused on one part f the sky that was solid blue with no clouds and could create magnificent buildings with my mind. It was almost as if the sky were my computer monitor and my thoughts fed directly into a CAD package. My thoughts and ideas were shown to me. It was awesome.

All the while this was going on, I was still extremely aware of the fact that I was awake. I would create a design and show it to my wife. She was able to do likewise.

Finally evening approached. It was becoming a little chilly, so we laid down on our sides, pulled a blanket over us, and watched the rifts and designs drift slowly across the sky.

It was at this point I realized that I was not awake in the normal sense of the word. I was not asleep, and I was not awake, it was almost as if I had been granted a vision. I experienced a feeling I have been having more and more lately in my normal waking life. This is a feeling of wonderment and excitement, much like Christmas Eve. And goose bumps the size of M&Ms.

I whispered in her ear, “This is what it is like to live a lucid existence. We can have all of the power and creativity of lucid dreaming in our waking life. We MUST learn how it is possible to exist like this all of the time. Today, we have been given a taste of what can be. This has to be what the enlightened throughout all of history have described as being fully awakened!”

“I looked to my right and the boy was back, playing along the edge of the deck, smiling and having a great time at play”

The dream faded and I woke refreshed and energized. This was the last portion of the dream.

I really admire you Seeker. I know we don't talk much but I always find myself reading about your dreams. You seem to have a genuine desire to understand life. I also do, but I lack the discipline you obviously have.

I am curious as to what path that is...
What is it that you seek? Enlightenment? How do you go about that?

Wow!!! I can't believe I ever missed this!!! That is such a neat experience Seeker and I think that is all that I could wish of the afterlife, and much much more. I think that is all that I can wish from lucid dreaming as well....a true moment of lucid clarity: Where everything fits together and all the big questions are gone, as well as all the petty little matters...there is just admiration and contemplation and peace. True peace...

Your dream has truly inspired me and I am glad that it was dug up, even with such an insensitive and close minded comment. They say everything has a purpose and I can live with that post's being that others such as myself can learn from your experience...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

Yeah, I know. Dreams like that don't come very often for me. Usually only two or three times a year. Those are the ones that really make you question if it is all inside your head or if someone or something is trying to teach you something.

      Very interesting.

I have to hand it to you Seeker, I have been LDing for awhile, and there's still so much to learn. I mean, we're just starting to learn about the lucid world. Keep Seeking....... Keep Seeking......

waow... i admire you for having that kind of lucid experiences seeker

I hope lucid dreaming is something they start to teach in school soon. To learn kids the great values of how life can be if the waking life and dream life go hand in hand. Someone have to throw in a demand in school politics that its a right to learn how to be lucid... maybe its taboo to talk about dreams today, but for the next generation i hope not.

Seeker, that was amazing. Making so many revelations in one dream can't be a coincidence. You had to of had some sort of 'higher' conciousness at the time. You have something going for you. I don't often post on DV, although I've been a member since May, and I usually only post if I feel its really neccessary for me to do so. I act like I live in DV's shadows, haha. (I really wish I post more, I have a lot to say.) But in any case, I'd like to congratulate you on such a great dream/vision

You know, that dream was on Feb. 16th. To date, I have not had one that has even come close to that one for length and knowledge gained.

One can only hope that tonight might bring another one!

did you take the messages from the dream and apply it to your life? are you awakening?

i am unable to dream/lucid dream at the moment. so instead i pretend im dreaming while im awake. i always think: if this was a lucid dream what would i do (with the exception of flying of course ) and i do it! its awesome! in dreams you dont care what othe people think because they are dream charactors. i apply this to life. if i want to run up and down singing so loudly and dance i do it! because everyone else are just "life charactors"

      and i feel so free
a child's rhyme stuck in my head
it said life is but a dream
i spent so many years in question
to find i known this all along..
