      Failed RC.

I experienced something new for the first time the other evening. I was in the middle of a robbery one moment, and in a hotel room the next. I came to the conclusion that I was dreaming and performed a nose-hold reality check. It failed!

So I established that I was not dreaming and there would be consequences behind my actions. A bit later I awoke, to come to the realization that it had all just been a dream.

      Are failed RC's common?

For me yes, but they are new to me. I have always just had this kinda sense that it is a dream, so when my reality checks fail, I get very confused.

I have never had a reality check "work" (as in show its a dream) for me in a dream, its always as if I am doing it in real life
I can't say I really know anything about what you're talkinga bout , but I said plausible because of that incredibly cool blind spot trick .

In my lucid dream I did two. I plan on always doing two just to make sure.

It's always a good idea to do more than one. One thing that's good to do is to just do a normal reality check for the first one and then on the second reality check do it whilst envisioning what would happen if you were dreaming. Like if you look at a clock and the time is 1:30 or something, expect it to be 7:50 when you look back. So that you're not just leaving it up to chance, you're actively trying to change it.

Yes, RC's are not guaranteed to work, but don't let that stop from performing them. Your awareness is the first key, so focus on an object and examine it. Think about where you were half an hour ago or what you had for breakfast. Works for me

      damn RCs

The other day I had a false awakening and I tried 2 different RCs and both failed.
(I tried breathe through pinched nostrils, and push finger through hand)

In the dream I felt very tired and "went back to sleep".

I find this frustrating, because pretty much anytime I try a reality check I'm dreaming, and there's so many things that don't add up that it should be obvious that I'm dreaming.

I'm still going to try RCs, but need to expand range of them, and explore where I am more closely.

If I suspect that Im dreaming then ill just keep going through all of them.

If I think Im awake, but have just been sleeping( trying to wild or something) then Ill do like 2 or 3

If I know Im awake(or I dont think im sleeping, and dont rmemeber sleeping recently) I just do 1

the other night I suspected I was dreaming and after a couple of rc's failing I almost gave up, I thought "ah sod it, I wanna get on with the dream" then I thought "no,I know this is a dream I will prove it" and I did a few more rc's and eventually one worked. Then I woke up

A similar thing happened to me a few nights ago. i was laying in bed and did a nose-hold reality check. i could still breathe, so i was dreaming. i did it again to make sure. sure enough, dreaming. so i get up walk into another room, and decide to do one more reality check before i do anything stupid that i wouldn't want to suffer the consequences for in real life. this one failed. i plugged my nose and could not breathe through it. so i woke up.

      reality checks

Last night I had another false awakening. Recognized a dream sign and tried 2 RCs - both failed.

However I was suspicious so I walked outside - it looked a little dreamlike/fuzzy.

So I tried jumping up in the air to see if I would fly or float - became lucid, but got too excited and woke up.

Inside the dream bedroom everything seemed "real", but I find outside in my dreams the landscape, and things in the distance don't have the same resolution.

Having recently learned about dream control and reality checks, I have done very few in dreams in so far, but of the few I have done, they have all indicated I was dreaming on the first try. However, I usually already know (or at least suspect) that I'm dreaming and just use the RCs as confirmation. I try to get in the habit of doing them more than once, and doing more than one type, though, just in case.

Oddly, the vast majority of the lucid dreams I've had in my life have been false awakenings, and everything looks mostly normal, yet I'll somehow know that I'm dreaming. Ironically, there will often be something odd about my room that I don't even recognize as being odd, even though I'm otherwise aware it's a dream.

I find the breathing through nose RC to be the most reliable for me

I failed an RC last night when I tried to turn something purple. So naturally I thought it was real and I woke up swearing.
