      Regular Dream Friends (DC's)

I did a quick search on this, but found nothing. So, here goes:

I was recently thinking about how it would be cool if maybe I could get a Regularly appearing Dream friend. You Know, A DC That I can see all the time when Im lucid dreaming, and he/she remembers our experiences and such, Like A real live person would.

      Questions:
      Is it Possible?
Anyone Ever Tried and Succeded at this?

I haven't intentionally created a dream friend, but have dc's that appear every so often and we carry on as if we were long lost friends.

Have another dream character that appears frequently but hardly ever is the same person physically. Spiritually, I know it's the same person, the main give away is his/her eyes. They are always a beautiful shade of gray. And the voice. The voice always has this sweetly soothing, enchanting quality about it that captivates my attention.

I don't think those are what you meant but that's about as close as I come to having dc friends. Maybe I'll try dream one up soon just to see what it's like.

Why is it that you desire a LD friend?

I guess it could be possible, though like Kitten Said, it might be likely that they come in different forms sometimes

First off, thanks for the replies Vex Kitten and Awhislyle.

I don't see why anyone would Not want something like that. Think about, 1) You could have someone to hang around with that would remember everything you've done, without having to create them all the time 2) Maybe he/she could help you get lucid more often. If he/she shows up in Lucid Dreams they are bound to appear in some Regular dreams, in which case he/she can help you become aware that you're dreaming.

Cool DFILD - Dream Friend Induced Lucid Dream!

If someone is interested in developing the techniques for this, testing them out, and demonstrating that they can be taught to and used effectively by others, then I think it would make a great tutorial!

I've had a dream lover since I was a boy of twelve. We weren't physical lovers until some years after that, but I see her in a lot of dreams, espescially those that take place in recurring dram places.

For example, we are in some of the same classes in the "Dark Academy" dreamzone, even though the classes themselves are almost never the same from one dream to the next, and I sometimes find her paddling a gondola around the canals that materialize in the dream version of my back yard.

She is petite, but a vicious fighter, with fair skin and dark black shoulder-length hair. Her face is calm, lovely, and warm. When she touches me, it is a more tender and soothing experince than I could ever describe. Sometimes, but not often, she has this punk/goth thing going on. That is espescially hot, for some reason.

She was once kidnapped by Big Bird in front of a dream McDonalds, but she seems to have escaped from that somehow.

As far as I know, she has no double in the real world.

Last night, I saw her again. My dog ran away early yesterday morning, and I spent the whole day looking for her. Last night, I dreamt that I had found my dog, but it turned out to be a dog the merely looked similar to her. I realized that this was a dream, but I was so upset about my missing dog, that I just started crying, allowing my lucidity to slip away. (I hadn't cried over it in the real world at that point, and I still haven't. My dog is still missing.) Anyway, my "dream girl" came into the room, without making a sound, and put her arms around me. I cried into her shoulder for what felt like a blissful/painful eternity.

It was very sad, and I lost my lucidity in the process, (I knew this was going to happen, and decided to let it,) but it was very therapeutic and I felt somewhat better when I woke up.

As far as I know, this girl has no name, or else I only know it in my dreams. We don't communicate verbally very much, it's more like we look at each other, and communicate subtle ideas and emotions mentally. When I look into her eyes, I see bottomless wells of love for me, and that always seems to tell me everything I ever needed to know.

I have tried to do that before. I picked an actress I like to be the one I summon at the start of every lucid dream. It isn't that I wanted every dream to be focused on her, it was for a variety of reasons. Like you said, to have someone who can remember past events, so my conversations can build on that. Also I thought by making it a routine, over time it might happen easily and quickly so I don't have to spend time and effort with summoning that might not work. And in addition to being a dream "friend", she could be a guide too. Asking her to bring me things or take me places could be more effective then trying to summon it from scratch. It wasn't about having her be the focus of all the dreams.

Well I tried that a while and it worked once, and almost worked a second time, but other times it didn't work, and a lot of times when I get lucid I don't remember anything I had planned, and since I don't get lucid very frequently, I ended up giving it up. I might try it again in the future again. Another thing I might try first is to write lucid short stories, coming up with perfect scenarios of what I'd like to try, and read them often enough to keep them fresh in my mind for when lucidity comes.

One other thing... Along with the dream friend actress I tried to create, I also wanted to create a dream protector, to protect me from any attackers, to do my bidding if I needed something done, and just for the fun of it. I had read a book once where a guy with great powers created one of those aliens from the movie Alien. Creating an alien protector was my plan. It only worked once but it was one of my better lucid dreams. I was at a grandstand with lots of people around. I was close to some celebrities and their guards started to attack me, shooting at me. I tried to summon an Alien. Instead of just one, there were dozens of them that swarmed all over the place attacking everyone. It was chaos. The dream started to shift into a worldwide war of Aliens versus the US military.

I've never had dream friends, but I had some nasty reoccuring dream enemies when I first started lucid dreaming.

      My Own Dad?
The worst one was my father. My relationship with my dad in real life is a good one, but this character was loud, destructive, violent, and evil to the core. He disrupted several of my lucid dreams by scaring me awake.

It eventually came down to a showdown. He went too far when he actually made me his slave in one of my dreams (non-lucid). I've never been so mad at somebody who doesn't even exist in my life! Anyway, I went straight back to sleep and performed my first WILD, determined to defeat him once and for all. I entered the dream in a woods, and a talking couger came down from the trees. She told me not to be frightened, and that she would give me the power to defeat my dad. She did so, and I entered my own house. The actuall battle was a bit anticlimatic, though. I screamed at him and told him that I knew that he wasn't my father and I knew what it was. I told him to stop his attacks or I would destroy him. Or something like that. He never returned.

      Strange Old Man
Basically the opposite of my dad. Low key, always stayed in the background. This figure seemed to have even greater power over me. He was not always hostile, though. He seemed to have the eerie ability to end my dream just by looking at me. My last contact with him was actually a dream where he was training me to be a better lucid dreamer. This was not a lucid dream. Of all the possible dreamsigns to miss...

      Prism Goddess
I don't remember where she got her name. She was basically a powerful witch. She once attacked me with a horde of giant monster at her command. She fled as soon as I got close. Later, she brought ruin to a dream village. She managed to drive me away, but in doing so caused me to feel anguish. It just so happens that extreme emotion is one of my dreamsigns. I became lucid and returned to the village to confront her and save the villagers. If I recall correctly, the village was completely empty when I returned. Like the other two, it's been awhile since I've seen her hit-and-run attacks.

I'm an active LDer and I think the friend-induced dream tutorial would be great, but is this taking it a bit too far? I feel disconnected from the "real-world" enough because of my dream states and thought patterns. If I began to create people around me in dreams which were as prevalent as the 'lover girl' above, I think I may develop MPD or be diagnosed clinically insane.

      Or maybe I'm simply crazy.

Lol I won't be able to learn that, I already had dreams where this dream chacrter or dream guide or whatever comes in both lucid dreams (if I'm in them long engough) and in non-lucid dreams where I'm too stupid to relize I'm dreaming when the same guy keeps poping up, even though I been in lucid dreams with him that not what made me become lucid.

I guess lucid dreaming can go too far, just like any other hobby. Or spiritual belief system if you're a new age type (whichever).

But why so disconnected anyway? There are lots of neat things and interesting characters out there in the real world.

One good point is my home state, New Jersey. It's one of the most developed states in the US. In the suburbs where I grew up people just sat around complaining that there was nothing to do. But if you look out there there is plenty to do, including hiking trails, parks and open, natural scenery. I spent part of my summer in a swamp marsh studying shore birds.

The point is, reality has more to offer than it might seem like it does sometimes. So wherever you are, get out there darn it!

For people asking tips on how to bring/create a recurring dream character:

Just use standard dream incubation techniques. Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming covers this topic extensively if I am not mistaken. Otherwise you could try a google search for the term "dream incubation." But I will do the best I can to help you guys out in this post, which really is not much. All the information you guys need is there if you do some research, but I will try to make a little guide based on what I learned about lucid dreaming right here. I like doing this sort of thing for some reason.

First, one of my favorite websites. http://members.aol.com/caseyflyer/flying/dreams.html
This website covers how to incubate flying dreams thoroughly. Trying to get a recurring dream friend would be a similar process. Though I think they can be more trouble than they are worth (see some of my recurring dream characters above, for example )

*Disclaimer: The website is a proponent of "ESP" which I personally think is BS. Sigh... active dreamers tend to flock towards questionable pseudosciences for some reason.

Moving on, here is my method. I'm sure the collective minds of this fine little community will improve upon it.

      During the Day
      1) Create your character.
Just like keeping a dream journal is essential for dreamers, a writer's journal is essential for writers. Flesh out the details of your character some. Write down what you know, and draw a picture if you are into that sort of thing (I personally can't draw).

2)Think about your character during the day.
Reread your character description, maybe even write a simple story based on your character. Don't overdo this step, now. Reality checks are probably more important. You probably want to be lucid. You are on a LD message board after all.

3)Before going to sleep, invite your new dream friend to come over. Imagine your dream friend in front of you, and invite him over. Do this aloud if there is nobody around. My roommate would think I was a fruitcake if I started doing that.

      While Falling Asleep
Modify your usual lucid dreaming routine to include your intention to meet your dream friend along with your intention to realize that you are dreaming. For example, use the Wake-Back-to-Bed technique along with a modified MILD. One good source if you are stuck here is, http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Lucid_Dreamin...tion_Techniques which also contains info on dream incubation. Be sure to check it out.

      During the Dream
Okay, so you are in a dream. You are lucid but your new dream friend has not shown up yet. Once again, these techniques are pretty standard in the LD community and already covered better elsewhere.

      1) Go around the next corner and *believe* that you will find your friend there.
      2) Turn around and *believe* that your new recurring dream friend is right behind you.
      3) Use the spin method. Spin around really fast until you lose the dream scenery. Set your intention to see your dream friend and keep your lucidity. Most importantly of all, don't get fooled if you experience a false awakening.

And there you go. Each time you want to meet your new dream friend, perform steps like these. If you get to know the dream character well enough, he may become a recurring character. But there are no guarantees. If you want guarantees, you are engaging in the wrong hobby my friends.

      Final Word
This technique is tailored to more experienced lucid dreamers. Beginners will probably want to be much more passive in their application of this technique to avoid getting frustrated. My advice: don't overdo step two in "During the Day", and skip the entire "During the Dream" section until you are comfortable enough with the lucid dream environment to toy with manipulating it. The exception to this is the spinning technique. If your dream is already fading anyway, then spinning is exactly what you should do.

Well, I didn't set out to "create" the girl in my example. She just showed in my (dream) front yard one night, and I guess my brain decided to keep her around. I don't think she creates any social problems for me, either. I see a lot of girls as it is. (Most of them like to party a lot more than I do, but I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for Miss Right.) My "dream lover" has never created a problem for me in that department.

As for MPD, I wouldn't worry about that. It is more likely to develope from compartmentalization of your thought process in your waking life. Like, for example, let's say you hold a mock dialouge inside your head to help make decisions, so you create a "devil's advocate" character in your head to always take the argument that is opposed to the choice you are leaning towards. During your waking, conscious day, mind you. In moderation, that could be healthy and even helpful, but It's not a dream character issue.

I've never created a DC intentionally, but I see no reason why it would be harmful.

I havent become lucid (as far as I know) in a dream yet but I do have dreams that include friends which I had before in other dreams (the X-Men) but only one always remembers what we had done the last time we saw each other, and thats anna paquin's character Rogue. I feel that once I become lucid I will try to get her in my dream everytime because I feel so connected to her through my dreams. I not only believe that it is possible but I know it is.

In addition, I also think that you could use this DF as a dreamsign to help you into lucidicy from then on they could possibly reccur in every dream. Just a students thought.
