I do believe this was a Lucid Dream..!

So, I've read on and off about lucid dreaming for maybe a year, but only casually, really. A month ago I started to get into learning about it again, and have made a conscious effort to remember my dreams for the past few weeks. For the last 10 days or so, I've remembered dreams every morning... amazing to me, since I used to remember once a month or something. A few weeks ago I also tried taking up art as a way of increasing my understanding of spatial reality and enhance my ability to visualize objects. I figured that this would increase the visual vividness of my dreams. Along with messing around with art, I also made a point of carefully examining objects in the real world and trying to notice the details in everything, when I have the chance to.

It feels to me like it's paying off... my drawing ability is slowly getting better, and my dreams keep getting more vivid. In fact, I think I was able to briefly go lucid in the dream I had last night - I'd love to hear what the people here think.

      Here it is:

"So I was doing some traveling stuff, there were details, but I don't remember them. Anyway, at one point, I jumped out of space or maybe a high high airplane and I clearly remember diving through the atmosphere. I had a pretty high influence on how fast I went. Anyway, I had no idea where on the globe I was going to end up, so I was a little distressed about that. I ended up crashing through the roof of one of the apartment buildings next to my own, so I was a little relieved. I went next door but realized I was in this large dorm-ish complex, it was kind of weird. Anyway I somehow ended up in this one guy's room and I talked to him for a while but then he got busted by the cops for drugs! So cops take him away and one or two stay to investigate, and I"m really cooperative and helping them clean up the drugs and stuff, and then this inspector type dude comes in, and he starts speculating on who did this crime (drug related, i dunno.) Anyway eventually he's looks at me and is like, "or perhaps YOU did it", indicating that I was just trying to cover up my involvement by acting nice and cooperating with the cops. I was pretty distressed and then I was like, god, this is horrible, WAIT, it must be a dream, I'm freaking dreaming!! I got kind of excited because I realized what that meant, so then I tried to control the movements of the inspector guy, I had limited success and after five seconds or so of my realization that I was dreaming, all of my vision started getting fuzzier and fuzzier and the image faded out. I tried spinning around in a circle really fast to refresh it but it didn't work. Later, in another realm of my dreaming, I remember telling people about how I had a lucid dream and how badass it was... unfortunately, I didn't realize that I was dreaming then, too... haha."

What would you guys say about this? Am I getting somewhere or do I still have a very long way to go?

Nope, that sounds like a typical first LD to me. Your definitly on your way though since you didn't wake up immediately. Now I'd suggest you keep doing what you're doing. Also, try to spin right after you get lucid, that way it will be vivid for the rest of the dream. I find that moving in general helps keep you in the dream too. Maybe you should run out of the room you start in then do whatever you want to do. I dunno, I've only had about 5 LDs myself.

SWEET that was so incredibly a lucid dream, congratulations man!

your post really made me smile, it sounded almost just like my very first LD, as far as realizing I was dreaming, then things getting fuzzy, then trying to spin but waking up anyway...to this day I'll still have LDs get fuzzy, then I try to get more clarity by spinning, or yelling "MORE LUCIDITY" (<<-- that one works more often for me than other techniques)

what really sparked my interest was you talking about "taking up art as a way of increasing my understanding of spatial reality and enhance my ability to visualize objects. I figured that this would increase the visual vividness of my dreams. Along with messing around with art, I also made a point of carefully examining objects in the real world and trying to notice the details in everything, when I have the chance to." I think that is a damn fine idea, you've hit something there...you know you should start a dream journal if you haven't already, would continue to help with your dream recall, and it's a great place to sketch some of the significant elements of your dreams

      anyway blah blah, welcome

I thought your comment about your influence on how fast you went during the free fall was interesting. Have you tried to extract more details about that part of the dream for yourself?
