      Very unexpected!

Last night i tried a new relaxation technique of counting to 100 in time with my breathing and feeling the heaviness taking over and so on...

when i started my counting i was doing really well and then all of a sudden i got to number 52 and i heard it as clear as day, two boys (sounded like they are at my bedroom window) shouted out "smells like poo" and started laughing, this broke my concentration and as i flinched my eyes it all just stopped!

Has anyone else experienced anything like this as its never happened to me before, i didnt scare me just took me by total suprise.

      Any information would be great

That was most likely a start of a dream. At least, it sounds that way. If this happens again next time, try not to break your concentration. See where it goes from there...

The beginning of hypnagogia it seems.
The auditory hallucinations from it to be precise.

It's been theorized (and practiced) that "fighting" with hypnagogia is a very effective way to practice and train towards WILDing.

I wouldn't say that it's something to be controlled since hypnagogia (though similar to the dream state) isn't really a dream yet.

The concept of the WILD technique is to observe hypnagogia in all its forms. Most often it's described as imagery but more and more often people are experiencing the auditory parts of it more than the imagery. I see/hear neither, for me hypnagogia is conceptual thought as a whole.

But overall I would advise to observe hypnagogia when possible, it's a direct way into a lucid dream through the WILD technique. I for one still find it tough to even reach it without losing all awareness totally so you're lucky to have had come through such an event. It'll help you familiarize yourself with what it's like and how to observe it passively enough to not snap fully awake.

I can never focus long enough, I would count and my mind would wonder....before I would count passed 100 I would figure nothing was going to happen so I would drift off.

That's certainly common and I find it tough getting to the stage of hypnagogia myself but the trick is to observe it as passively as possible. Counting and such, in my opinion, is too active of a method, too much concentration, which keeps one from getting closer to sleep.

Thus, what I do is let myself lay there going to sleep normally for a certain amount of time with my thoughts wandering all over the place until I'm just naturally relaxed and really sleepy. By that time I'm either still aware enough to just start passively waiting for hypnagogia or (just as what happened last night) I get a hypnic snap and snap out of hypnagogia accidentally. After such a snap or upon realizing that I'm relaxed and tired enough I simply lay there with my thoughts wandering but observe them very...carefully. I don't give much thought to the thoughts in my head, I merely let them flow and try to be aware of them in what way I can.

Lucid Dreaming Techniques have a great deal of crossover with Out of Body Work and Astral Projection... many of the induction routines are almost exactly similar. Anyway, what the more discerning Out of Body People have noticed is that they do not project exactly out into the same Physical Material World that we know is really out there, but some Astral Plane that closely corresponds to it.

When you were counting back, you crossed over in awarness to this Astral Plane that corresponds to your Physical Material territory. But you have found that it is a bit shady.

The Chinese use Feng Shui to change the Spiritual Vibes of their Astral Environments. Catholics use Holy Waters, Holy Salts, amulets, Holy Pictures, Images, Statues, Medals, Crucifixes and all and sundry to Spiritualize their homes.

One can also use Prayer to the Saints in order to evoke some spiritual protections.

You really need to chase away those Astral Kids who are telling you that you stink like poop.

I suppose that the Astral World has a great deal to do with how we Interface into the Collective Consciousness. If our immediate Astral Vicinity is lower astral and full of little demons, well, it seems to me that such influences could only add a degree of static and distortion to our Connection to the Universal.

I have no idea why that happened; I have done quite a bit of meditation over the years but never had an experience like that. However that is absolutely hilarious ahahahahaha "smells like poo" hahahhahahahahahahah I Love it hahahahahahah well that’s certainly something I would never expect to wake me out of meditation hahaha. Wonderful!!!
You should be happy that your mind is creating really funny images. I bet you are a really interesting person.
A technique my mum taught me as a child is to lay down in bed and focus first on your feet, say "good night feet" and let them fall heavy asleep, then focus on your ankles "good night ankles" etc until the top of your head. That usually sends me right to sleep! hhaaah

haha thats really clever. I might have to try that .

      As to Mrs.sk1pp3r

At least you can hear voices, All I ever hear are footsteps and creaks.

Does anyone else find it kinda funny that Lucid Dreamers are the only people that can tell people about hearing voices in their head and not be called crazy

I've had something fairly similar happen to myself, though on a different sense, which used to really freak me out. I'll be laying in bed and all of a sudden it feels like something has grabbed hold of my leg and is trying to pull my about my bed, this feeling would quickly put me into a panic and i would immediately wake myself. But after talking to my friend about how the body has an intense urge to move after laying still for about 20 minutes, i figured this must be what i was experiencing. Last week it occured again, at first startling me, i quickly remembered the conversation and relaxed, giving into the pull. It felt like i was pulled in circles around my large bed, which stopped not too long after starting, i got up feeling slightly unnerved and went to turn on a light. I was very happy to find the light did not turn on and i went about my lucid dream world.

Would this be the same sort, of thing?... has anyone else had anything like this happen? it still kinda freaks me out, so i'd like to know more about it if i could.

Hey thanks for all your replies!

Everyone has really valid points about what it could of been and everything and its so intersting hearing how other people interpret thoses 'childrens voices'

As for other people saying they have heard creeking and footsteps i will say this now, im such a scardy cat that this would scare me half to death! esp if i was in sleep paralysis stage and i get that all the time and it really frightens me!

Ive tried to do the counting again all weekend but ive found myself possibly getting bored and ive just drifted off to sleep before i can remember where i got to!

and lets just hope there really were no kids at the window cos they must of had a huge ladder! lol

hahahahahaha a huge ladder, what could they have been sniffing that smelled like poo on top of a huge ladder hahahahahah hahahaha.

Well sk1pp3r you know, sometimes it can be scary to have these experiences, it is just because as we grow up in this society we are hardly ever shown that there is more to life than the physical world. Of course there is a hell of a lot more and we are just scrating on the surface with lucid dreaming and these other techniques. But it is OK to feel a little scared when dealing with all this stuff. Just think, we have to unlearn all those years of being taught that we are just bodies and there is nothing else in the universe or within our selves. I have been scared at times too, you just have to keep at it and go into it fully, trusting in your self and staying strong. All it takes is a little theory and a lot of practice.

As Shadow stated its hypnagogia. Very normal and nothing to be afraid of. However, this is the funniest hypnagogic event I've heard. I laughed out loud when I read your post. That's awsome

I've had similar incidents of audibly hearing sounds that are not there while going to sleep. It sometimes freaks me out and I then go wide awake trying to hear more. Probably hypnogagia. But it's a good preview of how realistic the dream really is to your mind, huh?
