      Pushing through glass

Hi there all. I had a series of intense lucid dreams last night. A few things stay with me from them, so I will describe. I won't so much narrate the story as much as describe certain sensations and events that happened.

      a) This amused me greatly. I was sitting in a classroom in my old school (which made me recognise I was dreaming) and we were in a lesson working. When I realized I was dreaming I got up from my desk. The guy next to me [who was a guy called Chris I knew a long time ago] said I should sit down to which I replied "There's no need, I'm dreaming.". Then I thought to ask him what it was like to be a character in my dreams, to which he replied "well then, I'm you aren't I". This was a pretty deep and sublime moment for me.

      b) In the hallway of my old school, near the cafeteria I become aware again I'm dreaming. I look into the reflection of a vertical shutter like door, as I am looking at my reflection my face begins to rot and twist into a grotesque. I can feel my whole body contorting and bending. It doesn't feel unpleasent, or scary, just different. It was reminiscient of a film I saw recently.

      c) Glass pushing. This was perhaps strongest sensation I've experienced in this lucid dream or any other.

Essentially I decided to see if I could jump through a large window in my dream. By jump I don't mean smash through, I mean influence the world around me to push through the glass, and appear on the other side without it having broken.

So, I jumped towards the glass, but on contact the strangest thing happened. I felt the glass stress around me, and bend inwards flexibly, like a rubber sheet. Then I passed through and the sensation was absolutely amazing. It was like jumping into a freezing swimming pool without it being wet. There was a moment of time which was like no moment at all, or every single one in the universe, I stood hung in a void dull with no color but not dark, and then I was through the otherside.

The best way I can think to describe it is this. Imagine you are watching a man walk past a telegraph pole. He is walking fast and you know that he will be behind it for a very short time and then come back into view. However when you observe him pass behind the pole you wait, and wait, and rather than see him immediately come back into view it takes a good ten seconds. He eventually comes back into view on the other side, seeming not to having broken his stride.

Another way to describe it is like in cartoons, where you see someone hide behind an impossibly small object. e.g. a very fat man hiding successfully behind a tiny tree.
I can't say enough how peculiar the sensation was. Unfortunately my recall is very poor so I can't say more about it as part of a structured story.

      d) this amused me too. I seem to have quite reasonable control of flying now, at least near the ground. I have only recently remembered that this was something I used to do a lot when I was a little boy (i'm 25 now) and i still seem to fly in the same way. I kick my lower leg below me like someone treading water and it propels me a long. I also jump forwards like a long jumper at the olympics but I land above the ground and push of again. I remember when I was a little boy thinking that I could fly because I had dreams like that quite often.

But to get back to the point, I was flying along the corridor of my old school using the kicking technique and people were looking at me confusedly as I flew past. I think they were slightly perturbed.

      ---- conclusion

This leads me to a couple of questions, sorry for the long winded post.

Firstly has anyone else talked to their dream character? Are the characters aware of their nature, what do they say to you when you tell them they are part of your dream? When my dream-chris said he was me, I got a case of the heeby jeebies. It just felt pretty weird to be told.

Also, have you ever had people react to you in your dream with shock at what you are doing? In my dream when people saw me flying down the hallway they reacted like they would in real life. I always imagine dreams as places where belief is suspended, for the characters as well as yourself.

Has anyone tried jumping through glass windows, trying to do it so they don't break? I would be interested to hear your sensations!

      Thanks for reading. bye

      lol nice dream
must have been nice to see an old friend

      to answer your questions,
Ah jumping through glass , one of my funnier experiences in an LD happened because of this, I was running through a room excited to have gained lucidity when i came to a window, with no hesitation I jumped at it and smacked into it like it was made of fly paper (I just sat there stuck to it for like 3 seconds) then I gently got sucked through it to the other side

I once had an LD where dream characters were more or less stunned at my actions, I teleported to school to have some fun with my fellow classmates (), when I got there I deciced "wtf I may as well have some fun" so I pulled all my clothes off and began walking down the halls (it was between classes aparently because the halls were full) anyway it was really hilarious to watch the dream characters reactions, they were doing everything from pointing and laughing, to trying to ignore me

hmm that's very interesting. It suggests to me that materials properties in our dreams sometimes reacts in absurd ways. everyone knows the result of jumping into a window are that we will either brain ourselves or smash through the window. We instinctively know this, basing it on a very instinctive understanding of how the world reacts.

In our dreams though, our minds have only a partial understanding of how materials react under stress for instance, because while we might understand that putting force on a window will break it we can't fully comprehend the process behind it (the physics of the event). Thus our brain estimates the result of an event in our dreams, kind of like seeing two different pictures of an animation and tweening the images that go inbetween.

I wonder if someone with an extensive knowledge of physics or a given area would have more realistic dreams in regards to how the world reacts to specific events?!

I've actually done something like this in a lucid dream that stemmed from s false awakeking a while back (I think I need to get rid of the "counter" in my sig, I've gotten better and haven't updated.). I wanted to go outside, and I was in my room. So I tried jumping through the window. It was quite odd. The second I jumped into the window, I switched to a third person view and watched as I morphed into the glass, then kind of "swelled" out of the window in this awesome shiny, metallic/glass mix. Think of a wailing ghost... round and with blank eye sockets and a large gaping mouth, with a stretched face. That's what I looked like. Then before I was almost out, I switched back to 1st person and popped out and landed one story below. Then I walked around my conveniently rearranged neighborhood, where all the "hotspots" were all pretty much condensed into one large area. I wandered around and tried interacting with DC's, but I never get much out of them.
