      Question/Pain during dreams

First of all, I can't believe I never heard of this place, it's awesome.

Long ago(2 years ago) I saw a guide on inducing lucid dreams. I tried it for about 2 months and gave up on it a bit because I could not remember my dreams. About a year ago, I satrted up again with a strong interest. I have been a really slow learner at it, but I am glad to say I can remember a lot of dreams each night now. I have been really particpating in this for the last month(as in more motivated then ever) but now I have some fears.

First of all, I have been experiencing pain in my dreams, which I do not like. It has happened twice, and it makes me afraid to try things.

Last night, I was really lucid with a bit of dream control, not much but it was enough to influence things. So anyways, as I proceded into a large cave, a spider larger then myself attacked. It stuck it's fang right through my leg, and I recall immesne pain. It really wasn't what I bargained for. I woke up with a huge cramp in my leg, and as of now I can still remember the pain, throbbing like you wouldn't believe. Another past incident was when Sephiroth(from the game final fantasy 7) was chasing after me in a large mansion. Luckily he didn't have his masamune blade, but he crushed my head in a door way(rofl) and it ripped off my ear, and that was extremely painful and I didn't wake up for a long time so I had to endure it.

I thought the incident with sephiroth was a one time thing, but since last night Im scared shitless. I love dreams, I am having a lot of fun but if this happens again then I will have to dis continue it. My thinking is that I need more experience in changing my envirnments and surroundings, tonight I plan on trying the WILD method, and if it works I am going to practice as much as possible. But what suggestions would you have? Or even ebtter, what causes me to actually feel pain? What would happen if i died while I was lucid?

I see that's your first post, welcome to Dream Views Jamie. Since you are new, I should warn you my beliefs are a little further out than the majority of forum members, so take them as suggestions.

It seems like you may have a pattern developing. Typically, when the same dream theme is repeated, it will continue to do so until it gets your attention, just like recurring nightmares. The purpose is to make you aware of a problem, then for you to conquer it so it no longer is an issue.

The way you do that is by experiencing enough pain to realize it goes away quickly. It may even be beneficial for you to die in several dreams. Then you realize you are invulnerable and cannot be hurt. Also, your dreams should be seen as a laboratory. Anything is possible in dreams and any damage incurred is not permanent. It is a perfect playground.

Two main possibilities. The first being you wake up. Second, you will probably hit the ground, stay still for several seconds, and stand back up. I had a dream where I was shot in the chest three times, and no it did not feel good. I got right back up and after that I was fine.

Or even better, what causes me to actually feel pain?
I am not a big fan of lucidity, so I cannot help you there. Actually feeling the pain, this is where my beliefs really stray from others. I think we actually have multiple bodies in addition to our physical body. They have their own senses, and correspond one body per dream plane. I believe emotions are waves that actually propagate, and can be created simply by thought. Further, your dream mind creates your dreams, and can simply think of you feeling pain and you will.

Thank you very much! At least now I know the root of the problem, and now a few more doors are open to correct it.

      Thanks again!

I think you feel pain because you expect it. When you hit your hand with a hammer you expect to feel pain.
If that happened to me I would take painkillers (in the dream of course ) so I would not expect to feel any pain.

You could always try telling yourself several times as you drift off to sleep "Tonight, I will not feel pain in my dreams" and as long as you truly mean it, there will be no pain in your dreams.

      Subconscious and the negative

That wouldn't really work, because your subconscious mind simply crosses off the "not", and you will end up feeling it. To the subconscious, there is no understanding of the "not" or negative.

It's like saying "Don't think of a pink elephant." The problem is, you have to think about not thinking about it, and you end up thinking about it.

It would be better to say "I feel peace" or "My body feels great" or something along those lines.

Oh right, sorry I didn't know that. Makes sense though.

i feel your dream pain..........no seriously the same thing happened to me, once where i stepped on a piece of glass and other time where i got bitten by a rat (dont ask ). A also had a dream that i was fighting sephiroth, but i was with cloud and leon **( FF8 )** even though i have played neither games and know them only through kingdom hearts 1 & 2, which i recently imported by the way. Anyway getting back to buisness, i believe that your mind makes the pain real if you believe the dream actually happened, on the "bitten by the rat" incident i woke up feeling the pain and thinking the rat was still on my leg, so i kicked my leg just in case there was a rat there, but there wasnt and instead i kicked my foot which hurt. But the point that i am trying to make is that the mind can make thinhgs happen that never did, if they can make you see the dream then in theory they should make you feel what happened in it.

PS: dieing when you are lucid i believe will not harm you because no one and i mean absolutely no one wants to die, or aleast your subconscience doesnt so i doubt that it will kill you or hurt you that much.

      Hey welcome to dreamviews

I have alot of pain in my dreams, I have alot of dreams that seem to be themed around resident evil and condemned. But I learned long ago that pain is only a state of mind, I can endure it quite easily, and I have endured plenty of pain in real life with this technique.

      Good luck

This is true. I had much pain in my dreams when i was little. I was always trapped in my dream and i couldn't wake up, or even move myself. It was like some Sleep Paralysis during a dream. I couldn't do anything, i had to keep waiting "ages" to wake up. And it was both boring and scary. The best you do? Fight against it all the ways you can. Don't fret, and keep telling yourself you're ok. Plus, keep telling yourself you're powerful.

      I hope this help.

This is starting to sound like The Matrix. And a question I've been meaning too ask: Is it possible to be traumatized in a dream. I see all these people who are retarded because they at one point they felt incredible physical pain . So would it be possile to end up like this through a dream experience?
      I haven't failed
I've just found seven thousand three hundred and eighteen ways that don't work.

Don't worry there's nothing dangerous about dreaming (unless you're a sleepwalker). Like you said, they felt physical pain.

I get physical pain in my limbs when I try to relax to do a WILD. As I am relaxing, when the SP starts to set in, my body will hurt until I can focus my consciousness away from my body. That is why it is hard for me to get much past the HI stage.
