      Something strange...

Well, a few nights ago I wanted to take a break from my lucid MP3s and try a little self suggestion. I said "I will notice I am dreaming and become lucid." three times in a row. I then fell asleep. I had 2 lucid dreams and a strange happening. I had had a false awakening, with my eyes still closed, I thought it would be cool to try a FILD. I did, and had this immense vibrating/flying feeling and the loudest sound of train whistles/rushing wind, then I woke up, as if it did it in reverse. Can anyone tell me if this results in anything/ what the significance of this is?

I've had this experience many times.

I don't know exactly what causes it. It has to be something to do with sleep paralysis. Sometimes it's a subtle vibration throughout my entire body, sometimes it's very intense vibrations, sometimes it's a very loud humming in my head, other times it feels like my head is pounding so hard it might explode.

All I know, is that it's one of my favorite feelings in the world, because I know that when I experience it, I'm heading straight into a lucid dream.

Often times I will have a lucid dream...then slip out of it...and find myself laying still in bed with this loud humming, I lay and wait and then enter another lucid dream. I can do this over and over again for hours. You can train yourself to as well. Next time you experience that buzzing in your mind...allow yourself to delve deeper into it and it will put you into a lucid dream.

what she ^ said sleep paralysis hardly affects some physically, while with others it is experienced as a buzzing/ vibrating/ shaking/ slow-motion falling sensation of varying intensity.

it is an excellent opportunity to entering a lucid dream (check out the WILD tutorial). it can be a little off-putting at first if one doesn't know that it is a harmless and natural function, but soon one learns to love it. i've found it helps to think of SP as having one foot in both the waking and dream worlds. the possibility is open to enter either

      couple questions nina.

has this ability always come fairly naturally to you?

do you find you have a greater chance of waking into SP if you have been lucid, or do you frequently wake up into SP from non-lucids as well?

i know roughly of what you speak. one night i had a DILD, woke to SP, WILD, woke to SP, WILD, then broke lucidity in the dream purposefully to record them.

however, i haven't been able to duplicate this yet.

oh, and do you have any theories or suggestions on how to increase the likelihood of having SP in a particular night?

My first LD happened this way. While i was taking a nap around 11am in between classes in college and I got this horrible buzzing in my head. I thought I had a brain tumor or something haha, but then I had a lucid dream. It was amazing. Then I would take naps everyday on purpose to have these experiences. So yes, after that initial experience it did come naturally.

Yes...I often find it much easier to wake into SP after a lucid dream. In fact, I almost always wake into SP after a lucid dream at least a few times in a row before I wake without SP. I've had several experiences of waking into SP in the middle of the night when I wasn't lucid, but those don't happen very often.

Sorry though, I have no idea what might cause someone to wake into SP or not. I honestly just think it has to do with your sleep cycle. For example...I might be sleeping normally and then my cell phone might ring or something else would wake me up at JUST the right time...so that when I close my eyes again I go directly into SP. It's all about timing it seems.

      Hope that helps.

      thanks...quite helpful.

ah, this is encouraging! i must renew my efforts to maintain stationary after DILDs, and avoid breaking the cycle so soon.

i have also found it rare to have SP after a non-lucid, incidentally.

well, glad you're not dead of a brain tumour, and still around to share some knowledge i feel motivated to work on quadrupling the number of lucids presently had...
