What flying style do YOU use?

What do you do when you fly?
Do you stretch out your arms like Superman?
Do you flap your... uh.. arms?

There was a short time that I would make a swimming motion. I think it is that period of time that other people have described, where it stops working. I think that after a while, your brain starts to realize that it is not real, and therefore, tries to make it not work.

But other than that, for most of my life, I have a very layed by way of flying.
I don't put my arms out, or flap... As a matter of fact, I usually take up whatever pose is most relaxed. I think I am a lazy flyer, because I almost lay back, like I am laying on a bed, while I fly..
A lot of times I will cross my legs like I am sitting.
A lot of times, my limbs go completely limp and lazy.
If I'm going to the side, sometimes I lean that way, but for the most part, the direction that I am flying has no bearing on what pose I take.

      Anyway, just curious.
There are a few of these questions that I am wondering about.
I'll ask them from time to time...

I do the super man and the neo, arms straight back

The evening hangs beneath the moon, a silver thread on darkened dune.
With closing eyes and resting head; I know that sleep is coming soon.

Upon my pillow, safe in bed,
A thousand pictures fill my head,

      I cannot sleep , my mids aflight;
and yet my limbs seems made of lead.

I put my arms to the side and sometimes flail them a bit, I'm usually afraid of falling and a bit unsteady in my flight.
Or, broomstick - not kidding! It's really fun ...

I like flying fast, mostly Neo-style. I'll jump a couple of times (to get rid of the gravity) and then i'll take off. I did it like Storm too. And I also flied ín a storm one time, felt like a rollercoasterride.

Personal note: fly broomstick in next ld (thanks kaulana)

lol..laying on your back and flying? wow that is lazy XD

I have three ways of flying, I guess depending on how lucid I am? the first one is flapping my arms and looking really stupid I'm not sure why I have to flap my arms in some dreams, while in others I don't?

my second way of flying is an upgrade of the first, im levitating using powers - not flapping arms! Imagine Storm from X-Men I can go slow or take it to higher speeds. Like Storm im sorta in a standing position when I take off. This type of flying is easier and more free formed than flapping arms

my third is to grow wings and is the best out of the three If im lucky I'll grow the wings on my back - this has been the fastest flying of all! You can turn yourself vertical like an airplane if you need to go through a tight squeeze, you can do a nose dive and zoom up or even do flips in the air! but growing wings on the back is a rare thing for me

Ive been trying to grow wings on my back in my recent dreams - but instead of growing them on my back I get them on my arms. So im flapping with my arms again but at least they have feathers!

I generally use Neo's style of flying though there was one time I had to use a dog paddle type. While in Neo's style, I'm able to perform such feats as carrying people and objects, flying at a high speed, and going through matter (ghosting).
      I can because I know I can.

      I tend to float
or i use it to change the scenery by willing myself to hyperspeed
I put my arms behind my back push out my chest and then turn into a beam of light
then I vibrate and wake up in a different dream (still lucid)

LOL Can you imagine Neo dog paddling out of view in the last scene of the first movie?

      I recommend jumping.
Like the old school Superman, who could leap tall buildings in a single bound, before he could outright fly. Or like you see in the Hulk movie. When falling back to the ground I can sort of move, which is scary and dizzying.

Ive only done it once. I sort of swam through the air. pretty cool. I plan on doing some Superman/Neo style flying next time.

If I'm confident, I can launch quickly dbz style, both arms at my side. Once I start to think about how well I'm flying, I'll probably have to slow down or stop. I can keep it going long enough to get where I want to go though.

Then there's the more akward form, floating about, rising and falling as if in water. Control is spotty. I might be able to consistently glide/hover just above ground.

      This question comes up often.

A half a century ago, when I first began to fly in my dreams, one would not think of doing it other than the way Superman had taught the World.

Then I was engaged in my Dreams by a Squadron of Flying Dervishes, who sat cross-legged (the yogic Lotus Position) upon flying carpets. And they flew rings around my Super Man Position.

Subsequently I tried the Lotus Position... flying from the cross-legged sitting position... and have found I can fly higher, faster, longer, better.

And it is so much more dignified then dragging one's dick across the sky.

Well the most effect way for me to fly so far has been the superman position. It seems like I can go faster, and stay in the air longer. Any other position, especially a more relaxed one and I find myself gliding rather then flying, leaning into and away from the wind to keep myself in the air, rather than controlling my direction.

I had my first flying experience in a lucid dream this morning. I found myself in my bedroom and when I moved it felt almost as though the air had taken on the density of water. I was half-floating, half-jumping, quite slowly, and if I stayed still for a long amount of time I would gently sink back to the ground. I went out into the stairwell (I live in a third floor flat) and, instead of walking down all the stairs, I just let myself sink all the way down to the ground floor. Unfortunately, by the time I got outside I was close to waking up and I didn't get the chance to practise flying up in the air

In non-lucid dreams it varies. Sometimes I swim which is always really slow. Other times I skate(board) but without a board, kind of like a hover board from Back To The Future, which is very fast but slides a lot, and doesn't get very high. If I'm lucky I just take a run up and jump, flying any which way.

I used to always start flying by giving a big jump. Sometimes I would hang there in the air for a moment before I could really take off. Sometimes my arms are in front of me. Sometimes at my side.

Occassionally when I am having trouble staying up in the air, I use my arms and legs in a breast stroke type movement and it usually sends me back up.

In my LDs I have no problem just taking straight off into the air and continuing.

When flying indoors it is almost like the room is half full of water. I kick off from the walls and glide across to the other walls.

But my last few LDs when flying indoors, I have used the "lazy float" style, not touching any walls. Just carefully floating to the door so I can get outside and really fly.
