      Dreaming of lucid dreaming?

Well this sucks. XD I really don't know if I was lucid dreaming or this was all part of a dream. Maybe someone could tell me~

This was after 5-6 hours after sleep when I woke up and started to concentrate. I slowly drifted into a dream where I was standing in my front yard sitting on the back of my car. I saw a fog rolling near by and I thought to my self "wait, Is this a dream? I better check." So I jumped off the car and hopped up to fly....and I did. XD I was pretty psyched about it that I continued to zoom around in the sky and held my arms foward in a superman style. *l* I decided to zoom to a bangkok temple type of city and zoom around at the same time fighting off chinese looking mafia people.(Probably because I watched Rush Hour 2 that night). After that I woke up and told my mom and sister about my dream while we were getting breakfast at a hotel restraunt.

Then I woke up again in my own room. D: So was I lucid dreaming or not?

It seems you were lucid enough to question your dream state, and especially, you were able to control many action in your dreams (Zooming, flying, etc.). So that pretty much looks like a lucid to me! 8)

Edit: LMAO!!! I love that sig! Now i need to watch Dr. Gonzo again!

Well if you checked to see if you were dreaming and then proceeded to flying and killing the chinese mafia. I guess were you lucid.

You also had a false awakening. You thought you had woken up into reality, but you actually just woke up into another dream.

I was actually just about to post a topic like this. Is it possible to dream about lucid dreaming without being lucid? Like perform a RC in a dream, and supposedly become lucid. But of course you don't realize it's a dream until after you wake up? That would be weird.

This is something which I've been wondering about too. I've been having lucid dreams pretty consistantly (one every 2 or 3 nights since starting to really try lucid dreaming a few weeks ago) by just realising in the dream that it is a dream. When I wake up I wonder whether i've actually had a lucid dream or just thought so in the dream (did I dream of becoming lucid when really I wasn't? Maybe my subconsious was tricking me?).

It's very confusing and i'm pretty sure I was lucid, I think it's the lack of dream control which makes me doubt.

OMG i had the same experience as you. Let me tell you my dream. (I myself even said that I was dreaming about lucid dreaming be4 I saw yours).

Well I'm at school but I'm having a bad day and everyone is like ignoring me and while walking slowly, a guy I kind of like says, "Move!" rudely to me, and that does it. So I walk off feeling angry and sad, and then for some reason something sparks my attention that I'm dreaming. Well I decided to test out the flying trick, except for me it didn't work. But I kept doing it and i managed to hover up slighly (just like a foot in the air for a second but then back down), which was just slightly able to convince me that I was really dreaming.

Well then afterwards I 'wake up' except whenever I have a false awakening, I dont find myself back in bed, but rather, it's just a new scene. (Unless I just keep forgetting the starting point). So then I'm like telling my mom that I had a lucid dream and I never come to realize that I was in fact still dreaming.

Why does it matter? If you weren't lucid enough to know FOR SURE that you were lucid, then there is no point in trying to justify it as a lucid dream anyways, why would you want to call it a lucid anyways? So you can say you had a lucid? There is no point in lucid dreaming if you cant even become lucid enough to know for sure.

      exactly

lucid dreaming is something that you should do only for yourself, you cant show anyone your dreams so in the end they're only there for you.
If you think it was vivid and special enough to be called a lucid dream in your mind then call it that, if you have to ask then you may have said "i'm dreaming" in it, but who cares? its all about the experience,. not telling someone you had it

But, incase you were wondering: "a lucid dream is a dream wherin you state, or think to yourself on some level: --I'm dreaming--"

BillyBob_001, you said it, if you are going to attempt anything why attempt and tell people if there is incompitence in your attempt. Did you know there are whole forums filled with this. If some one is going to attempt something it is best if they keep it to themselves, "why lable a very specific type of sleeping goal, not be sure if you accomplished it or not, and tell people about it on the internet?

One time there was a guy who was attempting to practice polyphasic sleeping. I would say he accomplished it more than anybody I know, and even people who have talked about it on one forum I found from searching the web. Well, people encouraged him, and of course the occasional pessimistic doubted him, but he kept going. In the end, everyones' post was in vein when the individual declared he failed. So much for leading people on with their attempts and looking to consctructive criticism and guidence.

Why do these forums even exist?

      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      That aside,
There are different types of lucid dreams, some are hazy, some are not very memorable, and some even with a very strong opinion of having a lucid dream may have been experienced as not very vivid. IMHO Lucid Dreams can very from vividly lucid, to a questionable lucid experience.

I had several very similar experiences, not only that, I also believe that people who lucid dream are more likely to have a false awakenings. I think the part of the false awakening is the only thing the rest of us can be sure of, and most false awakenings in my experience has mostly happened after a lucid dream, especially a "long" dream such as yours. To me, that is sort of long, and in that lucid dream, you sure seemed to have some control. If you merely dreamed about experiencing lucid dreaming, I think the false awakening would have been shorter or wouldn't have happened. I also experience several false awakenings in a row when a lucid dream feels like a very "long" time.

My way of measuring my progress perosnally is based on how many non-interrupted false awakenings I have and how long they lasted before I woke up or started a dream without a false awakening. I say un-interrupted because sometimes it is possible to catch on to the false awakenings and start lucid dreaming. For intance a dream that seemed to last as long as the day caused for myself three false awakenings before I actually woke up, each of them lasting at what felt like between 5-10 minutes long. To me that was the longest and most times I have falsed awakenings I had in almost a year. Although not all my vivid highly controllable lucid dreams are followed by false awakenings. Keep in mind, this even to myself is not a very reliable method of measuring, this is something I have observed most of the time(say, 75% of the time).

Hoped this help. Tell us what has happened so far, any more lucid dreams since then?

Uuhhh... I really don't think we care if anyone else knows, or cares that we had a lucid dream. At least I don't. I was just curious if it was possible do that. And it's more satisfying if you KNOW you had a lucid dream than just think you had a lucid dream. It has nothing to do with what other people think. And I totally disagree with there being no point in lucid dreaming if you don't know for sure. I doubt that every time I have a lucid dream, I will wonder if it was actually lucid. Plus lots of people are just starting out and the feeling of being in a lucid dream is a new feeling. Just becuase you're not positive you had a lucid dream doesnt mean it's pointless.

you took my post wrong, I wasn't saying don't tell us about it. What I was saying is don't ask us if it was a lucid dream.

If you feel you were lucid (and trust me once your lucid you'll know it beyond a doubt) then post it here saying "a lucid dream of mine" but, if you think it wasn't that much different from any other normal dream you've ever had then post it in general discussion.

The reason this board exists is to comment on peoples lucid and non lucid dream experiences, don't not post your dreams, just don't make a post asking if you were lucid or not. because ultimately that decision is up to you

again once you have a good lucid dream (like the ones people are always typing in all CAPs about) you'll know beyond a doubt that you were lucid.

I did the same thing! I had a dream that I was in a car, and somehow, I fell asleep in the car. For no reason at all, I started to do a reality check by checking the car clock several times. It kept changing and I got excited that I was in a lucid dream. Then out of nowhere, Blade (Wesley Snipes) was standing in the middle of the road and we hit him. A bright flash of light came from nowhere and I was in the car again. That was a little disappointing for me, but now I can't remember whether I had actually realized that I was lucid (for all of 8 seconds) DURING the dream or if I remembered after the dream. It was exciting for me to figure out that the reality checks were working though. But my dream DID continue along after that and I wrote all of that down. Btw, my dreams have gotten quite vivid over the past few weeks.
Am I dreaming? Someone pinch me. Ow! ...Crap.

Ye i had oe of those dreams the other night... during the dream i realised it was dream, however i was not fully in control and i woke up really shortly.. this is how it went

I was with my friend mark... and some weird guy at a wedding was making mark do all these weird thing(i wont even bother explaining it will take to long) then i sed to mark "dw this isnt real its only a dream." Then i thought to myself and realised that it really was a dream... the dream quickly started to fade so i thought of the spinning method.. however instead of spinning i told my friend mark to spin.. after that i thought id go for a fly... i jumped onto the roof but then felt myself in bed..

so im not sure if i just thought i was lucid or if i actually was.. hard to explain

After 3 weeks into doing RCs in waking life, I did my first RC in a dream. I've done it countless times while awake, but in my dream I counted 6 fingers on each hand and I just thought "Oh shit, I have to see a doctor". I wasn't lucid at all :/

One of my favorite "lucid dreams" of all time was when I knew I was asleep, but I thought I was sleeping with my eyes open and doing stuff around town. I ended up waking up on my couch and realizing that I had been dreaming while knowing I was dreaming, but that I had not realized that my apparent perceptions were 100% dream images. It was like I had been experiencing reality and a dream at the same time without realizing that it was nothing but dream. Was I lucid? I'd say that I was lucid in a really warped type of way.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

Speaking of Dreaming about Lucid Dreaming...

I had a dream in which I was trying to have a lucid dream share. I was lucid in the dream (in my dream). It was odd
The saying "in your dreams" has taken on a whole new meaning...

I think it's important for people to know if they were "lucid" or not because most people don't know how much different the levels of lucidity are from each other, and they figure if what they had was a lucid dream, all of them were going to be similar.

Like for instance, my first lucid dream was right after I watched Waking Life, I kinda got a basic idea of what lucid dreaming was, but I didn't know all that much about it. That night I dreamt up this building with a light switch, a light bulb, and a hallway to fly down, it was all laid out for me to realize I was dreaming. But really, I just went through it like it was a normal thing and my logic was more like "if this light doesn't work, I can fly". So I wasn't all that conscious about my dream state, but when I woke up it seemed a lot like a lucid dream, comparing to other peoples' experiences. Since I didn't think it went much deeper than that, I kinda lost interest until I read deeper into it.

Anyway, what I'm saying is it's important that people know lucid dreaming isn't just one solid thing, there are a lot of levels of lucidity and a lot of differences between lucid dreams.
