      My first LD, yay!

Well, I just had my first LD a few hours ago. I'm very happy. Here it is:

I had been laying in bed for a while, and I felt that another reality check was in order, so I glanced back over at the clock, and for some reason it was showing letters instead of numbers. I was in my dream of course, so this didn't strike me as odd. I simply looked away and looked back to perform the normal reality check I had been doing. When I looked back, it was showing numbers again. This is what alerted me. To be sure, I pinched my nose and tried breathing, and it worked. I immediately began examining my hands in case I might wake up, and noticed my hands looked slightly different than I remembered. I was quite excited, but before I started giggling madly, I remembered that I perhaps shouldn't get too excited as it might also awaken me.

I got out of bed and headed to my balcony, as I remembered that the first thing I was going to try when I was lucid was flying. It didn't work at first, but I tried a different approach. Instead of jumping in the air and trying to keep going up, why not just take off? My balcony is rather large, so I think that took away the fear that I might fall to my doom. Even though I was dreaming, I was afraid I might experience pain when I fell to the ground. Well, I managed to fly, and once I realized I could do that, I went around trying to impress my family by doing incredible things like picking up the refrigerator with one hand and chucking it across the room, or ripping up blocks of cement with my bare hands. One thing I noticed however, was that no matter what I did, my family didn't seem to care that I suddenly turned into a super being, they were acting like it was normal. Near the end of the dream, I said to my brother that I was going to fly over to one of the mountains in the distance and pick it up. He said he'd like to see me try (in a sarcastic tone). I had just gotten into the air when I woke up.

      Anyway, that was my first.

...so just curious - how long did it take you of keeping a journal or doing reality checks all day to have this LD?

I just started the journal. That was my first night with it.

I got really lucky, but now that I know I can do it, I'm hooked.

This happened to me, too. My first dream in my dream journal is a lucid one.
Unfortunately I didn't managed to avoid premature awakening. I had about 20 LD's since April, but I wake up instantly when I realize that is a dream, so I can't spin/do other things and

Yeah, I hope I don't have my own premature awakenings in my future LDs, though, knowing me, it'll probably happen.

I had been doing a ton of reality checks like every ten minutes. The way I understood it, the more reality checks you do, the higher chance you have of doing it in a dream. It seemed to work for me.
Well, I told myself that I would remember and wake up after my dreams before I went to bed, and it seemed to work, because I woke up in the middle of the night (which I NEVER do). Then I went back to sleep telling myself again that I would remember my dreams.

I remember in my dream when I was about to wake up, I was thinking "I need to write this down the second I wake up," so that probably helped me.

Plus, as I went from dream world to real word, my mind stayed focused on the memory of the dream, so maybe that's why it worked. The first dream I recorded, I didn't remember much. I think it's just because it was a lucid dream.

It really was luck I think, since last night I barely remembered anything. But I'm going to keep trying forever. 8)

Psychol, congrats! Seems everyones hooked on the first one, and for good reason. This is the beginning of an increadible journey for you. Now don't go givig up if things don't stay as good as they are, I've seen a few people quit LDing just because of a few days of none.

      Good luck!
