I'm a beginner lucid dreamer- in fact, I had my first "true" lucid last night. Anyway, this is how it started:
I had some dream (I forgot what it was) and then I woke up. I told myself to continue on with that dream when I go back asleep, but then realize it's a dream, and hopefully start a lucid. Well, I got back into the dream but I didn't know I was dreaming; I thought the dream was actually reality ( I was in a Buddhist temple for some reason). Within that dream I thought to myself, "Hey, try falling asleep and maybe it'll start a lucid," keeping in mind I had no idea I was dreaming. And then I instantly found myself in my room, and I was lucid.

I went outside and there was this really stupid looking city, but I flew around. I tried to fly into outer space, but I was going too slow. For some reason I wanted to wake up, and I did, but only in the Buddhist temple. That time I knew I was dreaming because I didn't wake up in my bed, so I told myself to wake up again. For some reason I couldn't wake up; I told myself many times to get up but I just couldn't. I thought I was going to be stuck in my dream. I eventually woke up in the middle of the night, really frightened. I was afraid to go back asleep, but now that I reflect back on this experience, it doesn't seem that bad.

So, I'm just wondering- why did my lucid start after falling asleep within another dream?

and, why when I tried to wake up I was in the Buddhist temple? Pretty weird.

Does anyone understand what happened? It's sort of hard to explain even for myself. I never knew you could dream within a dream- but that's pretty much what i did.

Thanks. I'm glad I'm not the only one who had a FA.

Happens to me sometimes, I know exactly what you mean. Some of my LDs, I fall asleep in the first dream, have the LD, then reawaken into the other dream, thrilled about having had a lucid dream. It's weird, but doesn't stop you from having an actual LD, and two if you train yourself to do reality checks upon awakening!

Yeah, I know what you mean, it's very weird and adds to the realism...

It doesnt happen to me a lot though, but when it does it comes in series like 3-4 times in a row, and always unpleasant dreams.. and THAT'S creepy since you, like Initialize, get the feeling you're trapped in a dream[nightmare]world...

Isn't it ironic how some people are begging to have a LD, and yet other complain because they're trapped in their dream world. Of course, being trapped doesn't necessarily mean you're lucid, but i have yet to have an unpleasant FA experience, it's definitly tricky, but i always find it the most interesting of all dreaming experiences.
