Thread: After 2 years, finally had an LD.

Finally, after giving little effort at random times in the past two years, I finally went lucid. Odd thing is, it was on a night that I wasn't trying. In fact, I hadn't tried to go lucid in a few months. It only lasted about 15-20 seconds until I woke up, but as soon as I did wake, I knew what I had done.

Seems like the harder I tried with different techniques, the less I remembered about my dreams, and melatonin only had a small effect. I know many others have had success after only a few weeks of trying, but it just didn't work that way for me. I simply found myself in a situation that seemed hopeless in my dream (running from the cops, helicopters and all, Grand Theft Auto style), until I thought this is the end, realized I was dreaming and flew away.

Anyone else have their first LD this way? Don't know if I'm just a weird case or if anyone has gone lucid their first time this way. I also noticed that my dreams in the past few nights after have been VERY vivid, as in, I wake up and can't believe that my dream didn't really happen. None have been unrealistic enough for me to realize that I was dreaming though. Any hints for improvement?

congrats! if i were you id check out the tutorials on the front page. what i do is not watch t.v. for about an hour before i go to bed, and meditate for 15 minutes. then you can try a MILD, and/or you can wake up 6 hours later and try to do astral projection or a WILD. i hear great things about AP but im not sure how to go about doing it

thanks. About to go to sleep, going to smoke and chug a Live Wire real quick, because I know that nicotine and caffeine are what got me through my first year of college during my morning classes. Gonna try a few mg of melatonin, because it did make my dreams a little more vivid when I tried it, even though they have been very vivid the last few nights. I'll try and find something to think about for the next hour, and hopefully it will work.

I had my first LD out of the blue. Or at least, the first I remembered, my dream recall is non-existent.

Hey congrats! Hope good luck in the future! It'll get easier from now on.

And yes sometimes the brain does illogical things, and goals come easier when you are not bent blind to trying to achieve it.

Was it worth the wait?

I have this fear of drowning and I have had several dreams where I am about to drown and I become Lucid.

Just woke up an hour ago, as soon as I realized I was dreaming, I woke up. It was another vivid dream, but this one seemed somewhat realistic. Only when the sky suddenly turned red did I know that I was dreaming, but at that point I woke up. Need to work on staying lucid.

Howetzer, it was well worth the wait. In my first LD, I was lucid for 10-15 seconds at most, but in this one it was maybe 1-2 seconds, if that. I'll have to take a look around the forums for tips on staying lucid. I tried the spinning when I woke up, but it was too late already.
