I just woke from an LD that was 1 of 2 recent LDs that were very different from my usual, and that raises questions in my mind, or what's left of it.
I was dreaming that I was watching some cross-country runners at practice. They were young men and women running along a path that passed through what appeared to be an old battlefireld in Europe. There were small mounds and pits, now all grass covered, and rusted old tanks and half-tracks. The dream was a bit funny, because they were required to run back and forth over miles and miles through this stuff for some incredible distance, but they never got tired. They seemed happy. There was music playing that was pleasant.
I decided to join them, since I also love to run. At that point I became lucid. Suddenly I began to accelerate, and my vision failed. I was running really fast, but blind. When the dream scene finally appeared I was running along a city boulevard with a fair amount of traffic coming at me, but I didn't collide with anything, just kept accelerating. I could hear the wind roaring in my ears. The road ran next to the sea. I passed hotels, factories, beach resorts, etc. I couldn't slow down or stop, even though I was lucid. The scene would go blind, then reappear, but the feeling of fast movement was constant. I could turn and move backwards, but I couldn't control my movement otherwise. In one blind period I headed for the ocean, or where I though it was, thinking the water would slow me down; but I don't think I ever entered the water, just kept moving over the surface, even though I couldn't see it. Then I was back on the road. I did see some great scenery when I could see, but I couldn't stop to play!
This went on for a long time. Finally I asked the young woman running with me, "Ludmilla, how much farther do we have to run?" "About 350 miles," she answered. "Ok, I said, another 10 minutes." Ten minutes or so later I awoke.
A fast calculation said I was running at 35 miles per minute, or 2100 MPH, about Mach 3.
Now this dream occured under the influence of a Nicoderm patch, and it is the second LD I've had using the patch where uncontrollable speed was involved. I'm a nonsmoker, so the patch really gives me a buzz. Has anyone else experienced a similar reaction?
