      Nose RC=Very Unreliable

Last night I had an LD but the nose RC failed.

Alright, first of all, let me describe my dream.

I woke up at 6:30 and I usually wake up at 7:00. I thought to myself that I might have time for a FILD. I tried a FILD, but ended up with a non-lucid dream.
It started with me playing basketball with some friends of mine on the street.
We were outside and it was dark. It looked as if it were about 10:00 PM, which I found wierd since it was bright in my room when I fell asleep, but I guess I didn't think much of it in the dream.
For some reason me and my friend went to the basement in my house to go play PS2 in the dark (?)
After my friend went home for some reason, I was alone in my basement with all the lights off and my TV on.

I went over to the lightswitch to turn the lights on, but all that happened was it made a wierd sizzling noise.
I hadn't yet realized out that I was dreaming.
I was apparently pretty smart in my dream, and I decided to keep the TV on while I walked upstairs for some light. It seemed like none of the lights in my house were on.
I tried turning some more on, didn't work, then went back downstairs for some reason.

Then I thought "Okay, none of the lights in my house work, I must be dreaming."

But the thing that really turned me off from the fact was this: I did a nose RC and it failed. I couldn't breathe through my nose. I did this several times and I couldn't breathe any of those times.

But then I luckly thought that I still might be dreaming, so I walked upstairs and did a clock RC and found out that I was dreaming.

Anybody else have it where you just stumble upon doing an RC randomly because of something that happened in the dream?

I've had nose RCs fail several times.

Just a couple nights ago it happened... but I woke up with my nose plugged!

I've never had a nose RC fail, but maybe after reading these posts I will? In that case I'll have to come kill you all. Okay wrong smiley but I love it. Death by humpage maybe.

Nose RCs never work for me. Not sure why.

But I found the lightswitch thing especially interesting. I just came across it by fluke. All it did was make a spark noise, flash a little, then stay off.

Well, I never have had a dream where it failed because I couldn't breathe through my nose. On the other hand, a few times I could breathe through my fingers but didn't become lucid. I made up some stupid excuse in my mind 'my fingers mustn't be fully covering my nostrils'. I did a few more then concluded 'my fingers must have holes in them!'
      Grr...
I now when RCing throughout the day use a few RC's including nose, finger through hand and also surveying/questioning my environment!

      I dunno.
Of all the times I've been lucid, the nose RC has either never worked, or failed to make me lucid.

I did a nose RC once and it worked, but some DC gave me some stupid explanation of why it worked, and I didn't become lucid.
But I find the lightswitches thing very reliable because it is such a common thing in dreams. I can't immagine how many dreams I've had where I walk up to flick on a light to have it not turn on.

It works for me most of the time, though I've had it fail aswell. I always do 2 reality-checks, just to make sure. If both of them fail, well, damnit
