can you expalin this? it has to do with sleep paralysis

Last night, I went to sleep at about 10 or 11pm, I woke up at 2:30am and could not sleep, I watched a movie till about 4:30, I was still not sleepy so I was just laying in bed waiting for 5am so I can jump in the shower, I closed my eyes, but I KNOW Im fully awake, I can hear everything, here and there I kept on opening them and turning to look at the time, I JUST WAS NOT SLEEPY, so I had my eyes closed when I decided Im just going to get up and start my day, but I realised I could not move, I could BARELY open my eyes, everything was fuzzy, I noticed a shadow of a person by my door, but I knew It was probably my mind creating it, it took me like 10minutes forcing myself to get up to finally be able to move, now I KNOW that's usually sleep paralysis, but can you kinda point me in the right direction, why did it happen while I WAS NOT SLEEPING?

      Hey there,

Many people report experiencing sleep paralysis while being awake. Its not that uncommon. Also remember that the feeling of being sleeping is twofold, you have the body and the mind.

The body can be exhausted while the mind is wide awake, which would usually make you feel 'not sleepy at all'. Vice versa your body can be quite awake while you're mind is very fatigued, which will make you feel very sleepy (but when you try to sleep you end up lying awake unable to actually sleep).

In your case, it's likely a case that your mind was wide awake, so that you hardly even noticed any sleepiness or exhaustion. Additionally, withdrawing your attention from your body (like thinking about something else altogether), can cause the body to 'shut down' and go to sleep, which might have happened in your case.

      Hope that helps,
