Do you think during a lucid dream?

I noticed a ton of my lucid dream I don't "think" very much about anything. Normally there is a list of a few things I want to try and then once inside of a dream a random thing will pop into my head from the list and I will do it. Some times I will see something and it will remind me of something on the list then I will do it.

Its not normally that bad untill I want to try something new, because if I don't really focus before going to sleep I will try an old item on the list which I have done in dreams before. It seems like the more I have done something, the more likely I will just start trying it again.

I think part of the problem might be because all my lucid dreams are really short, most under 2 minutes. So I have to act fast or I wont be able to try anything. So I might start rushing then miss what I wanted to try even though I don't really want to. I think some of the time it kills my dream too.

I had a fairly vivid LD last night. I decided to have a little *fun* with this girl who was standing in front of me. My dad was also near me, and I was thinking "I can't do this in front of my dad...", then I thought "I need to think through this logically, I'm actually in bed right and I'm dreaming, so obviously he isn't really there". I can think with my own free will in my dreams, but If I really can't, then I also can't when I'm awake.

I think in my Ld's. Somtimes I think, no pun intended, that I think too much. I may find myself in a Lucid dream. I then start to anlyze the dream and what some of the signs could mean. I then get cought up in the thought process and my concious mind takes over, kicking me out of Lucidity and the dream usually waking me up.
Other times, when I did not apply any thought durung the Lucid dream (or very little) -I don't think you can be Lucid and not have any thought process going on. I was kicking myself in the morning for not processing the dream a bit more.
I guess I have to find a happy medium.

I find that I can think, but with limited ability, kind of like when you have been awake for too long and someone asks you to figure something out. My memory also seems to suffer in lucid dreams, I know I have a list of things to try a mile long, but when I am lucid I usually have trouble remembering what it was I wanted to do and just go flying instead.

That is a very good way to describe this. I think your subconcious still rules the roost as you are dreaming. Making it difficult to think at the same concious level as you would if you were awake.

I've noticed that my thinking depends on lucidity level.

During a low lucidity dream, my thoughts are short and direct. If I find myself in my room, I have to get on the street and so on.

During a high lucidity dream, I can analyze the dream and generally be much more "intelligent" in my actions...

yes this is one of the main things im struggling with

its like i am aware but my thinking is that of a child or something where i dont really have the ability to stop and think ok i am dreaming what do i want to do the most

instead my theory on my own thinking is that there are a bunch of random thoughts popping in my head and i just involuntarily do them

even though i dont have complete control its still alot more fun than regular dreams because it feels like im actually there instead of just being there "in a dream"

I have had my moments where I just stopped up and thought "ok just calm down. don't rush things, remember what you want to do" and such.. And then forgot that intent a few seconds later!

But normally, I'll just do some random activity like flying, exploring, talking with DCs etc, whatever comes to mind first.

      its sorta like a wave,

wow im dreaming, (i start thinking at a "high" level)

*goes off and does stuff, aka, TRIES to fly * (after that, low thought level)

i might "blink" and wake up, then go back into it, (high)

or I might become semi-lucid and realize i am dreaming all over (high)

or I would just go on dreaming normally (tapper off) (low)

      Me too...

I find that I constantly frustrate myself trying to analyze dreams and what they could or might mean as I am dreaming. Other times there are riddles or mathematical equations, sometimes written out, sometimes "said by voices" that I also try to analyze too much. My thinking dreams tend to speed up the more I try to analyze, making it even more difficult, so I tend to try and find a good balance between "conscious" analyzing and going with the flow so that I don't interrupt my sleep.

Yup. This is what has happened in the 2 lucid dreams I'd had. In the first one I was like (Without thinking if that was what I really wanted to do) Fly! Fly, damnit! and I didn't think of trying anything else.

Maybe because this was just long enough to try to fly twice, then I woke up into the "real" dream.....Yes, it was a dream within a dream..xD.

And in the second one it was the same way.

I was inside a house. I became lucid by looking into a mirror and then I said "Woo! I'm dreaming! I'm lucid!"

Without thinking I ran to a window that was made of small panes of glass that were maybe 4 inches across by 3 inches high and ran out into the yard infront of the house and tried to fly.

I floated a feew feet above the ground, without thinking.

Then I couldn't try that much else because guys with knives promptly showed up. I tried to sorta wave my hands towards them (Like in the TV show Charmed) and I was sorta thinking "Poof away! Go! ><...".

Without thinking after they started throwing knives at me I started blocking them with pink sandles (I was wearing them earlier and I took them off because for some reason I was wearing 2 pairs of socks and I took them off and was going to put the sandles back on when the Knife-weilding-people came)

Then I got stabbed in the head with a knife and I was trying to wake myself up before the guy stabbed me with the second one..I was thinking something like "Wake up! He's going to stab you with a knife! Again! It'll hurt!" For some reason right before I got stabbed again I went into a different dream.

o.o...This ended up being longer than I thought. Anyway......I guess I think to some tiny extent in that dream, but that was mostly when something failed to work.

That doesn't sound fun maybe you should have run away? I'm hoping for another accidental lucid dream sometime soon

Do any of the people who are really good at lucid dreaming think? Like people who do it like 3-4 times a week?

As far as I know, lucid dreams themselves are made up of thoughts...
If you're talking about "conscious thought" or analysis, I do this in almost all my lucid dreams, although not for long periods of time. Doing it for long periods of time tends to be very draining. One has to develop a good breathing technique in order to maintain a lengthy "cogitation" during dreams.

I was thinking if I could just relax and little and walk around without trying to do much in a dream I could get it to last longer. Problem is an idea will just pop into my head and I go off and do it. I would say I do something I really want to do at the time, but the only reason I want to do it is because I am not thinking clearly so I don't think about what I wanted to do before that.

      Try this

I wanted to prove if I can think well in LD and I did this experiment.

Before going to sleep, I wrote down this easy to remember mathematical problem:

If 2 men can build 3 walls in 4 hours
How much time would it take to 5 men to build 6 walls?

I did not solve it while awake.
In my LD, I took paper an a pen, tried to remember the problem, and I could solve it!!
Aldough it was much more difficult to me than solving it while awake, I needed too much concentration. But when I woke up, I compared results and the number I calculated in my dream was OK.

Try it if you want to prove your power of concentration!!
      Regards,
      AVE

i usually think as if it were real life, infact i think more than i do in real life,
my last lucid dream i sat down and just watched the whole dream happening around me and tried tests ect, because it was m 2nd LD i wanted to see what i could do, but yeah i thought properly.

What was that number, by the way?

In my experience in many of my lucid dreams, I have tried to accomplish exercises of focus and concentration (especially with dates) and I THOUGHT I was successful, only to check my answers after waking to find them close but not exact. I think that sometimes it's like being drunk or high... I THINK that I'm able to concentrate well, but it ends up being my own delusion.

Hi, about the number I did this reasoning:

      2m------3w------4h
      1m------3w------8h
      1m------6w------16h
      5m------6w------16/5h

So that number would be 16/5, is it rigt?
If I'm wrong I'm as wrong in dreaming as in real life!

Well even if you are wrong, as long as you came to the conclusion both times it means you had a good train of thought, you just did it incorrectly

But it doesn't matter if they are right
