Pain when forcing myself awake from a nightmare!

I actually posted this on a Facebook sleep group, but this forum seems much more active... No one replied to the other one.

Ok, so even though I'm a lucid dreamer, I have nightmares. All my nightmares are lucid, and I always force myself awake when they get really bad.

For the last 2 years or so, forcing myself awake has caused me physical pain. When I wake up, all of my at least larger muscles will hurt and ache for like 10 seconds before it quickly fades.

Anyone knows what's up with this? Has anyone else experienced this, or something similar? I'm glad I only have a nightmare around once every second month. It's really uncomfortable.

Well, thanks for responding to my post before..I can't help but feel the situations are somewhat related. Honestly, I don't know what to tell you. It must have to do with SP...your body doesn't want you to wake, but your mind is desperate to get the body to respond...just a idea. I noticed this alot with nightmares especially. I doubtit's serious, probably just a sensation of a type of panic going through your body since you say it fades rather uickly. Post if it keeps happening since last night this happened to me for the first time in a long time...I'd like to know how you deal with it, or if perhaps you can used it in some way to induce LD's, if your still borderline in SP.

      Speak with you soon.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's directly related to SP, because I can move, but I usually only move a little because I'm in pain, though I sometimes roll over, trying to shake it off. I don't think it's serious or dangerous or anything, but I'm really curious because I've never heard of this before.

Perhaps your muscles tense up during the nightmare and take a minute to relax once it's over.

I wish someone figured out how to prevent or froget about the painful feeling you get from waking yourself. I get the same thing and I hate it. It seems like the pain is getting worse and worse. And the waking up process is getting slower. I also hate that I can remember so clearly the pain too.
