      Is this considered lucid?

Ok, last night I believe I had my first lucid dream. What was odd though was the lucid one was a dream in a dream. In the first dream I was just sleeping but in the secondary dream (let's call it the DD for double dream) I was lucid. I could see both dreams but I thought the first dream was reality. Also, I could move and talk in my sleep but I was in the DD most of the time. I tried flying, putting my hand through a wall, and checking my digital watch twice. All of the reality checks worked. I then tried to materialize my school so I could tell my friends (who are also trying to have lucid dreams) that I was dreaming. I concentrated, and I saw a flash from far off. I thought it may have been the school appearing so I started flying to where the flash came from but then I stupidly woke myself up. Oh yeah, and the way I realized I was lucid was that I was dreaming I was a video game character (Vexx for those that care) and I was about to wake up from the DD (I actually opened my eyes in the first dream, when I realized i was dreaming so I immediately closed my eyes and tried the reality checks. Would this be considered a lucid dream?

Im not too sure I understand what your trying to say. You were having a dream, and in this dream, you dreamt that you were dreaming right...? But was it in your original dream or you "DD" that you became lucid? Maybe you were dreaming that you became lucid, but actually werent hmm, im lost in my own translation(great movie by the way)

in order to know if a dream is lucid or not, answer yourself one simple question...did you know it was a dream.

YES, I knew I was dreamiing in my DD but not the regular dream. Remember, the DD was the one where I flew and I was the video game character.

That sounds like a lucid dream to me...I've had several double dreams like you describe, where I wake up in the dream, but I'm not really waking up it's all part of the dream....I guess this was part of what triggered you to reolize you were dreaming....Sometimes I'll wake up in a strange place and say hey this is'nt my bed I must be dreaming...I think it's definately a lucid dream, just because you knew it was a dream

      was this a lucid dream

I too dream within a dream and within that dream I know that Iam dreaming! I have only had two of these. The first time I knew because the hinges on a door had changed from one side to the other. The second time, last night was because the clock kept changing. However, even though both times I knew within my dream that I was dreaming I did nothing about it, didn't get excited just carried on dreaming and sort of forgot. How disappointing! Hopefully more will come.
