      My first (real) DILD!

Naturally I got myself far too excited and woke up quickly. But basically in my dream I could feel my hand movement restrained, so I looked at them and found two of my fingers were being held together by a connecting piece of skin, I struggled for a moment to free myself, couldn't and then just thought to myself "that skin isn't there". The skin disappeared, I looked away for a moment, looked back and the skin was there again. I realised I was dreaming, thought to myself "time to fly", then felt the dream start to dissolve around me, I tried to spin but it was too late, my real legs were the ones moving instead of my dream legs.

I'm glad I got this, because I was beginning to get frustrated because not only had I not had a lucid dream in which I had real control, if only for a second, but my dream recall was starting to wane. You can be damn sure I won't be giving up now

Congrats! The first one is a big step, because then you realise you can actually do it. It certainly helped my motivation!

Ocelot, congratulations on your first real DILD!

For those new to lucid dreaming, I advise that you don't try to set the lucid world on fire your first few dreams.. don't try to do too many tricks, fly, summon people, etc. Simply go with the flow and take it all in. Get used to what being lucid FEELS like so you can ground yourself in your dreams.. that's when the tricks/stunts can happen.

Your first few dreams simply act like a tourist in a new place.. go sightseeing and take in all the different colors and sounds. You may try to increase your vividness by confidently declaring "increase lucidity" or "clarity now" but that would be the extent of control I would recommend for struggling dreamers.

I still have to remind myself the moment I become lucid to get "grounded" in my dream (i.e., make it as lucid as it could be) instead of immediately racing to do something before I lose lucidity.

One of the tricks I use to "ground" myself is to "touch" things. By touching.. I mean really "feeling" them. Get into how they feel.. are they hot, cold, smooth, rough, etc. (this also helps me remain in the dream longer).

Just remember that "the deeper the level of lucidity.. the better your lucid experience should be".

It's amazing, there's no doubt about that. Clairity, I just realised that until I felt the dream fading, I never even thought to ground myself, my mind jumped straight to flying, even though I promised myself it wouldn't. Any tips on keeping myself under control once I'm dreaming?

What do you mean by keeping yourself under control?

If you mean, keeping the dream going, the same "grounding" rules apply (I constantly "feel" things while lucid).

I also read where someone would "narrate" their dream while having it. For example they would say to themselves, "I'm dreaming and this tree is beautiful" or "This dream character is really funny", etc.

I don't know how to describe what I mean >_<

Basically while I did have control of myself, I just didn't even think to do a reality check or rub my hands together or something until I was about to lose the dream. I don't know if that makes sense to any but me, but I can't think of any other way to describe it. If it doesn't, let me know Thanks for your help either way
