      Whats the difference?

      How can we tell the difference between an actual lucid dream and a dream where we are dreaming we are lucid?

      I have had some dreams where I am unsure of which of these it was.
      Total LD's: 5 (4 DILD, 0 WILD, 1 MILD,
      0 FILD)

      Well if your lucid then you know your dreaming at that moment, thats the only requirement.
      If your only dreaming about being lucid it must be a scenario where you don't know its a dream but perhaps your talking about being lucid or something.

      Once I had a dream where i drank a potion that gave me lucid powers in "real life". So I had no idea I was dreaming, but I was still exhibiting some control

      Try not to confuse yourself with technicalities - I did with my first Lucid Dream and I ruined it.

      If at all in your dream you realise your dreaming then you are known as Lucid - you're aware that its just a dream. My first Lucid dream was also a dream within a dream and I too thought it was a fake Lucid Dream where I just thought I was Lucid.

      It's simple, try not to let things confuse you, simply lift the curtain covering your eyes =)

      I misunderstood the question.

      Quiksilver737, I thought you meant dreaming about the subject of lucid dreaming.
      You can't dream about being lucid. Your either lucid, or your not.
