I only LD when i nap during the day

I have found that the only time i have dramatic LD is when i sleep during the day. I've been having LD for about a year and they came naturally, i had no idea that you could learn this type of dreaming, or any type of dreaming for that matter, until i stumbled onto this site. Anyway, my question is, has anyone else found that the time of day affects their quality of LD? Also, daytime sleeping is the only time i've experienced paralyzation in my dreams. any theories?

Um, I don't have any theories at the moment, but some people experience really cool LDs during naps. I personally can't remember any dreams at all during naps, so at night is the best time for me. And I always feel extremely tired after waking from a nap, so I've forsaken the whole thing.

The majority of my lucid dreams are in fact unintentional "WILDs" that occur when I'm napping later in the day, and these always start with an episode of sleep paralysis. I'm not so sure why it is. I've also noticed warm weather seems better for lucid dreaming. In fact, in general my dreams seem to be more vivid when it's warm.

Dierdre taking a nap at midday gave me every day a ld for years, besides the ones i got at night. These days i dont nap at midday.

Your melatonin level shifts over the 24 hours cycle of day and night and prob at midday and such its way lower then at night, so you wont really sleep deep when u take a nap at day time.
Also you already have been awake for hours so its a sort of time relayed wbtb tech!
But to simply answer your question, you sleep lighter so more awareness in your sleep, closer to waking and there for more chance on lds.

You sound just like me! I used to be able to have LDs whenever I wanted...it was as simple as taking a nap in the afternoon especially if I'd had a lot of caffeine that day. I've only had one LD at night. But now that I'm co-oping I never nap during the day and haven't had an LD in like three weeks...so sad.

just out of curiosity, how much later do you guys take a nap in the day compared to when you initially woke up in the morning. i've tried naps a few times, but most of the time i don't remember a dream at all. but when i do they are always extremely vivid and often lucid. i'm wondering because i wonder if there's a point in the day where if you take a nap you must get past the initial 90 minutes of sleep to dream. cause sometimes i've napped for an hour or so and had no recollection of anything...

Well during school I usually get up at 8:15, go to class from 9-12, then I have a break from 12-2 and thats when I used to nap alot. I'd usually nap for like 45 minutes to hour and a half. At the time when I was having the most LDs during napping I noticed that it occured on days when I had caffeine and ephedra and I think my LDs might have been WILDs but I'm not completely sure. I would usually go from laying there trying to fall asleep to LD but I don't know if I actually fell asleep or not between there.

      Yes naps rock!

Mm CCHawk, mostly 31/2 to 5 hours after waking up, so a bit between 12:00 and 14:00.

I had my first LD yesterday, and it was during an afternoon nap, which I rarely take. Maybe there's a connection, since I only seem to dream when I wake up in the morning, then go back to sleep, or am napping. Maybe that's only when I can remember them. Oh well, there's probably a reason behind all if it.

WOAH! My BEST LDs are when I take naps. Or if I sleep in really late some morning. Don't know why though. But ain't it great?!?!

I'm sure it has something to do with your REM periods being really long then.. so.. you have plenty of time to become conscious, I guess. Meh.

I took a short nap today at about twelve.

I amazingly enough had an lucid dream.

I usually don't remember my dreams during naps, so this was rare. It may be that I haven't taken a nap since I've started lucid dreaming and increasing my dream recall, but I'm not sure.

The dream was very long. I remember almost all of it, too. There were some strange dream characters and locations. I didn't become lucid until very close to the end. I was walking across a large bridge to a downtown area and when I reached the other side I realized that I was dreaming. I almost woke up when I realized it but somehow managed to stay inside the dream. I had to close my eyes, I think, in order to stabilize everything. When I did, I appeared back at a place I was at earlier in the dream. I was still lucid, so I jumped from a hill behind a nearby house. I landed inside a cake that was shaped like a doll house. I walked away from it and came upon a house with a girl sitting on the front porch. As I got closer, she started changing shape. First to a smaller girl, and then she turned into a flower. I picked up the flower and as I did I woke up.

It was a very interesting dream overall and the lucidity part made me especially happy.

I'll need to start taking naps more often.

Is it better to take naps like 2-3 hours after waking up? What if you wait longer, like 6 hours?

      Oh, and congrats AcidBasick!

      Thanks Scwigglie!

I'm not sure myself on when to take naps, but I took my nap about eight or nine hours after getting up; woke up around three in the morning. I think it really depends on the individual. Regardless of the time, the first step is being tired. Back when I used to take naps during the day I went to bed around when I got home and sleept for about an hour. That was pretty late in the day, too. I don't think I would be able to nap after waking up for two to three hours. Just too awake by then. Unless, of course, you get up earlier then you normally would. In which case you would essentially be doing the wake back to bed method and it would be best to only stay awake for an hour to produce the same results as staying awake for longer.

as far as i recall, i havent had a LD napping, but when i nap i tend to have alot sleep paralysis, and when i have that, sometimes i try to move my body and a few times i succeed in a way, my body aint moving a friggin inch, but i can feel my arms waving, like if the ethereal part of my arms becomes unglued from the physical part, and i even see my ethereal arms, but they dont look normal, once they looked like claws and once they looked like a rotting corpse's arms. Weird sight

Yesterday I tried to do WILD while taking a nap and it totally worked, though the dream wasn't near the level of lucidity that I've had during other LDs. I napped in the evening, at about 4 pm.
