My First lucid experience using 5-HTP

      Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum and I would like to share with you my first lucid dreaming experience using 5-HTP.

I am a 25 years old male and I have had in my life 2 or 3 lucid dreams before last night. I usually sleep quite well and tend to remember my dreams 75% of the time.

I started gaining interest about lucid dreaming about a month ago. Ive read many articles and tutorials on how to attain lucid dreaming and using 5-HTP seemed to me the easiest and quickest way to get a chance to attain LD. So, I decided to order online 100mg capsules of 5-HTP and give it a try.

Yesterday, I received the capsules and after reading about recommended dosages, I decided to take 200mg before sleeping. I'm a very healthy guy, doing a lot of sport and i am not taking any other drugs at that time. Because I am a tall and quite big guy, I thought that taking 100mg would be too low for me, so i went with 200mg.

I took the capsules at 10.30pm and fell asleep around 11.15pm. I remember waking up a 2.45pm for no reason and feel asleep again right after.

After that, i had my lucid dream. Here is how it happened:

In my dream, I was waking up to go to the toilets, from exactly the same place where i was sleeping during the same night. When i entered the bathroom, before going to the toilets, i looked at myself in the mirror and i was very surprised that the image reflected in the mirror didn't correspond at all to what i was really doing, which was standing in front in the mirror and staring at it. In the mirror reflection, I was already sitting on the toilets.

This is was at first quite scary because it seemed like I was in a horror movie, but this is when I realised that i was in a dream. As soon as I realised that, my first thoughts were to remain very calm in order to keep myself in this LD state. I was still in this bathroom, and it was very dark. I wanted to make the room brighter and tried to spin in order to achieve that (recommended on tutorials). But when I did that, i got some kind of panic attack because I felt like if I would spin, I would be spinning my physical body and it would wake me up. Any comments on this?

Anyway, i tried something else, I closed my eyes and reopened them wishing that the room would be much brighter when i would re open them, and it worked.

This experience was still very new for me and I must say that i was a bit lost in my dream.

My next thought was to bring someone in that room that i wanted to see, a sexual fantasm (yes i admit ). I used the same strategy. I closed my eyes and reopened them and someone appeared in the room, but not the person i wanted. So i repeatedly closed my eyes and reopened them again in order to make that person appear but the same one kept on appearing and this is when i started panicking.

I felt like i very quickly lost control of my lucid dream, even tho i still knew i was in a dream. But after a few seconds, i woke up from my LD because of the excitement and the frustration of not being able to see the person i wanted.

When i woke up (it was 3.30pm), i was so excited about the fact that i had a LD and trying to LD again that i couldnt sleep for the next hour. When i fell asleep again, I had very vivid dreams (due to 5htp) but didnt experience any LD.

Does anyone have tips to share on how to gain more control over your dreams and make them last long?

Overall, I am very satisfied of my LD experience and I must say that everything that happened in this LD seemed very real to my senses. I could feel perfectly what i was seeing.

I am very convinced that the 5-HTP helped me achieve this by making me more conscious of my dreams and by making them more vivid.

I do not want to take too often these 5-HTP capsules because i dont think this would be very healthy, but i definetly will keep trying for a while.

I would really appreciate if you could share past similar experiences, make comments and give tips for gaining more control over your dreams.

For those who are interested, i bought my capsules at lef.org ; i bought the 100mg capsules from jarrow.

Congrats on getting lucid but I've just been reading up on 5-HTP after reading your post and read about the risks and side affects - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-HTP - doesn't sound to great to me. As desperate as I am to LD I think I'll give these a miss!

Ive read a lot about it and the side effects occur really rarely. There have been studies to compare 5-HTP side effects with many other drugs and it was concluded that 5-HTP 's side effects are minimal compared to most drugs.

anyway thank you for your comment

      anyone else?
