Thread: On The Turning Away.

Atlantis.

Many think that it was destroyed by a natural catyclysm, like a volcano or some other natural force that wiped out the continent.

Others think the Atlanteans gained so much knowledge and power that they did something, something that upset the balance and ended up destroying themselves on accident.

Still others think that it was a combination of the above two, they were using some kind of technology or magic or what have you and that triggered a natural catyclysm.

In its infancy it It was a beautiful society, so many cared for one another, it was like a giant family, everyone reveled in their technology and superior knowledge of spirit. But as it grew, and grew in power, and advancements in technology and spirit they grew arrogant, and cold to their brethren, and their cousins, (will speak more of that soon).

Pink Floyd said it best, they called it the Turning away.
The sad thing it is happening again...
I dont know how I made the connection but this song, it evoked the same emotions I was feeling during the dream.

On the turning away
from the pale and downtrodden

It's a sin that somehow
light is changing to shadow
and casting it's shroud
over all we have known
unaware how the ranks have grown
driven on by a heart of stone
we could find that we're all alone
in the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
as the daytime is stirring
where the speechless unite
in a silent accord
using words you will find are strange
and mesmerised as they light the flame
feel the new wind of change

No more turning away
from the weak and the weary

from the coldness inside
just a world that we all must share
it's not enough just to stand and stare
is it only a dream that there'll be

Atlantis was not a single island, it was an archipelico, they utilised the sea just as much as the land. Late evening was beautiful, watching as all the lights began to fliker on, it was a cool pleasing light, it didnt cause the glare that our lights do, watching as the bridges and causeways between islands illuminated, it was done so that the lights chased one another, it started from one side, and grew outwards reaching every home business and street light, it was crystaline in nature. I never got to see from the air but I could imagine how it would grow from the central power to all the islands. There were the under sea lights too, pathways and domes that could be seen through the clear waters.

But there was a dirty secret, as the society grew, a slave class was formed, not from a source you would think. Dolphins, yeah they are as smart as us, hell they helped the atlanteans realise their dreams, and they spoke, its not that difficult for a dolphin to mimic the human voice, but it was not just simple copying, they understood what they were saying.

The emporer somehow got tainted, or the power of his position corrupted.
The dolphins were peaceful, they had no weapons, what the hell would a dolphin need a weapon for? A snout works just fine, in case of sharks, thats it though, and most sharks learned their lesson after being hit once, you didnt have to kill the thing... its not its fault it was a hungry eating machine, but they serve a pupose.

The dolphins were enslaved, used for underwater work, and later in time on land, I dont know how, the machinery is beyond me and I was changed when I was young, and dont remember how it was done we were changed into human forms, we had a device attached to our arms, that kept the transformation in check and regulated it, if the device was removed you would change back to your original form, and could not be transformed again, many of us dreamed of seeing the land on legs, just like people wish to swim in the sea like a dolphin they wished just hte opposite, its another trait we share in common with them, we desire that which we do not have.

The first group to be enslaved in human forms, simply tore off their regulating devices and changed back into dolphins, they were kept from the water though, and so it was commiting suicide...

Afterwards the devices were shackled on so that it could not be removed, grown crystal is a very strong substance. It was nearly indestructable.

I was fitted with one of those.

I remember thinking
"I wish it were back to the old days, where I could just play all day, do stupid tricks for the people, and get treats"
We loved doing that kind of stuff, not only did we get free food, it was also a competition between us, who could outperform the other, we were such hams hehe.

Well, it happened, we revolted, we could not take it anymore, we stopped speaking to the humans, the dolphins in human forms stopped speaking to the humans as well, it sucked... I didnt have as a human the senses to hear natural dolphin speech, it was like being deaf and mute... I ignored the humans, those that were dolphins we used sign languages and some telepathic communication... but its tough you can only convey feelings and emotion words dont work.

We escaped, got past the borders, but so many of our kin were still enslaved, we tried to form a resistance, we returned tot he borders, fortified now, the emporer was planning on basically taking over the world I guess and wanted to be ready. I dont know what the hell we were thinking, we were dolphins, not frikin tacticions, we arrived at dawn, a fence with a causway on the surface, nets that anchored to the seafloor, made of some uncuttable material.

There were guards... they didnt look like atlanteans, they were huge, musclebound, and dark... They started shooting, many fell before we even got to the fence, my boat slipped by to the side.

My regulator took a hit, I guess it wasnt so indestructable, I changed back to my true form, it felt so good, it had been years, I was fully matured now. I swam twards the guards I gave my fellows in the boat the impression that I would destract them while they tried to make it through.

I lept in the air near the guards smashing into the fence, I want to clarify here, it was not some chain link fence, it was wroght of silvery and gold metals, in intricate triangular cells, beutiful, but functional.

I caught their attention, they started shooting at me, my friends... they spoke, in human, What are you doing leave, get out of here! your free, the gunners payed them no heed, they were having fun trying to pick off the stupid dolphin. I caught her eye for a second, just enough, I think they made it past, or at least got onto the causeway giving them a chance.

Things got weird, I remember looking up from under the causeway, could see the feet of my attackers, being handled roughly.

Feeling the crushing weight of my body on my lungs, I was on land a boat, heading to the city center, it was night now, and thats when I saw the lights again, it was still beautiful.

Thats all I remember..

Not all beauty is true, beneath the surface can be a festering sore that is truely ugly...

I assume my friends made it, we only needed one person to get to the city center, one person to destroy it all, to trigger that natural catyclysm.

And still today the dolphins refuse to speak to us.
With just reason.
