      The Why-ld

All right, so after reading some tutorials, help topics, etc. etc. I decided to try WILD-ing for the first time in months. (The first time it didn't work out too well...) I had just woken up from a non-lucid dream, and I was feeling pretty tired. Suddenly, I remember about WILD-ing. I get up, go to the bathroom, then I get right to it. It wasn't that hard to lie motionless because I was really tired. I started counting, but I lost track eventually as I fell asleep. I can't remember much from the transition moment, except for feeling as if I were on a roller coaster. I felt as if I were flying at a high speed, and I saw a really vivid scene of a random lion roaring. It was strange, since it had nothing to do with my dreams at all. That must have been the WILD part... XD My eyes seemed to open on their own, and I found myself in the same position, in the same bed, in the same room. But for some reason, I just knew I was lucid. No RCs necessary.

But suddenly, this thought pulses through my head: 'What if this is a nightmare?' I'm guessing I was referring to the darkness in the dream and the weird posters up on my wall. I also remember thinking "I don't like that smiley face!" when I looked at an innocent drawing that was hanging on my wall. But as soon as I think this, the mood of the dream suddenly shifts. I got really scared at that point, then closed my eyes in an effort to escape my dream. I open my eyes, this time in the real world. Then I think 'What the heck did I just do?' I blink again, and find myself back in the dream, same position, same place. Almost as if I were changing channels. I blink again, then find myself back in my own bed. But this time I couldn't get back in my dream, no matter how many times I blinked. I was too exhausted at that point to continue, and I was forced to fall asleep normally. When I woke up that morning, all I could think was 'Why, oh why?'

It was sad, yet funny at the same time

Ha, it's great you had a successful WILD, but it sucks that you freaked out before getting anything done.

The blinking thing is interesting. Are you sure the first time you did it you were actually in the real world? It could be that you subconsciously got rid of all the scary stuff that was going on when you stopped focusing on it and shut your eyes. Then by refocusing on them, and blinking again, you could have brought them all back. Thinking that you had caused yourself to wake up previously, you may have blinked again with the intent of waking, which did, in fact, wake you. Just a thought.

If it turns out to be right, then it looks like you've got a talent for changing dream scenes. Even if it isn't, the talent could still be there, given what you've described.

Before I WILD-ed, I remember how my room looked, and exactly how bright it was. When I 'woke up', my room was exactly the same as I remembered before I went to sleep. In between each 'scene change', I felt a sinking sensation before I appeared in the next one. I think it's because I fought my way past SP, but it eventually took me over again. I didn't do a reality check, which is a bummer. I only did some the last time, and they told me I wasn't dreaming. Interesting theory, though!
Either way, the next time I find myself in a WILD, I'll just avoid nightmare-inducing thoughts like that. The situation is actually funny when I really think about it, considering that nothign can hurt you in a dream.
