WOW! What an experience! + theory about lucid dreaming

I didn't want to forget it, so I wrote it down.
I was flying unaware of my dream state. I was some sort of superhero and it hit me - I am dreaming. I took control of the body and I was flying over a city. I saw a building and turned left. This was the best flying experience I have ever had. It was so real when I was in it.. It doesn't seem as real now, but it was very real before. My eyes started to squint, probably becuase of the wind. I knew I was starting to lose lucidity - it always happens like that. I looked at my hands. They were very detailed. It was so cool....[/b]
It was SO real. I truly did, wake up, in my dream. Just too cool I have to say... It surpasses my dream when I had melatonin...

It lasted about 20 seconds, but it was really cool.

Well anyway, here comes the theory. I think that some dreams it is just naturally easier to get lucid due to hightened awareness. In that dream it was kind of based on the movie "the incredibles" and I was beating up bad guys. One person grabbed my legs with his arms that were all robotic and stuff (it was quite odd) and I couldn't fly. I told myself I can do anything if I will it to, like I subconciously knew it was a dream already. I was able to fly easier. Some dreams are just like... not meant to be lucid. I had heightened awareness in that dream so that probably led to me realizing since I was flying, I was dreaming.

      Freaking AMAZING experience.

That is more than likely true. Lucidity in-and-of itself is just awareness. This is why practicing awareness while awake leads to practicing awareness while dreaming (we typically replay our actions) that becomes awareness (lucidity) of the dream. This is also one possible explanation or reason why certain Buddhists are such proficient lucid dreamers and have been doing it for so long throughout history.

      * by awareness here, I mean being consciously aware of the present moment; being mindful of the present moment. It is an active awareness, not a passive or fleeting one.

I agree with you wasup. My dreams vary a bit between the "clear" and detailed ones where I easily go lucid, and the blurry, normal dreams which I have problems remembering in the morning. I believe it is much easier to go lucid in a dream that seems real.

I also agree that some dreams are not meant to be lucid.

Well, what I mean is that some dreams you just notice things more naturally.

For example, pretend this is the dream.

I was walking downstairs to go to school. *A hedgehog developed like a growing fungis to my right on the window and imploded while simotaneously turning into a dinosaur. *I looked in the t-rex's mouth and saw the stairs I was walking and went in his mouth. *He had toasters as teeth, and a refridgerator as a tounge. *I got back to the stairs and walked outside. *Flames were falling from the sky into buckets of water and hail was flying upwards. *I went on the bus, which was of a spectrum gradient, and shook the three headed bus drivers 5th vertabrea. *The dream ended.[/b]
The first time you had that dream, you might not recognize it as a dream, but the second time you may. It matters about your awareness. Eh....
