Lucid but still going with the flow?

Many times when I become lucid I'll start off doing whatever I was doing before I became lucid. Like the other night I became lucid as I entered a restaurant, and while admiring just how detailed the surroundings looked I continued to get seated and order a drink, etc. Finally I was like why am I still here, let's do something! Kinda annoying and cuts out a minute or two from the dream. Sometimes I slip back into not being lucid because of this! Just wondering if anyone else gets frustrated by this, and any tips to prevent it?

I do this sometimes too. The other night I had a LD where I was a dinner and was just showing my gf that I can put my finger through my hand. As for avoiding doing this, I would suggest making some lucid goals and trying to remember them in your dream. Flying helps too I think because it gets things moving.

Sticking to the plot is what I always used to do. In fact I sort of took it to be the end all be all of dreaming ability, until I found dreamviews and discovered all these other things that are possible. I always tried to keep moving as well. Trying to never let the plot or my vision stagnate or get stuck.

I snapped out of it in my last decent LD, saying to myself, "Ok get serious!" Very glad I did, a LD can be very pleasant and suck you in but I found that working on dream goals was much more fulfilling in the end.

So yes it works either way. And I would think being able to go lucid and stay with the plot and chill would be a sign of a skilled dreamer.
