      Wonderful "Flying" Experience ;-)

Hello! Below is from my dream journal and relates my first flying experience while lucid. I thought I'd share it with you all.
      _______________

I had read in another newsgroup that people often became lucid if their dream is a nightmare or if they feel in danger and I think this must have stuck in my subconscious.

I was in the middle of a really bad dream when I realized that this was not going to be a happy ending for me if I didn't do something. So.. without thinking, I simply said "I'm dreaming".

I instantly "woke up" in bed.* But I was LUCID and this WASN'T my bedroom.* I raised my head up and there was a picture of some daisies on the wall.* The picture was three dimensional (i.e., the fabric was puffed or had pieces of fabric attached to the picture to give it texture).* In this picture, the daisies' petals were yellow pieces of felt/fabric, their leaves were green pieces of felt/fabric.*

The air conditioning must have kicked on in reality because in my lucid dream, the daisies began to shiver and whimper and their petals closed like they were cold.* I suddenly felt very sorry for them and I tried to comfort them but they started to cry.* I told them that it would be ok, etc. when it dawned on me that this was my first lucid dream in over a month and I'm wasting it comforting flowers!*

I jumped up and stood on the bed and yelled at my husband "I'm dreaming!".* He opened his eyes, looked up at me smiling and said "I know" and rolled over and went back to sleep.

I decided that since everyone talks about flyng I'll give it a shot.* I jumped off the bed to the floor and bounced a little (the way you see astronauts do when they first walk on the moon).* I thought ok... I know I can do better than this.* I go to the window and it appears that, in this dream, our bedroom is on the 3rd or 4th floor of an apartment building.* I open the window, push out the screen ... and I jump.

I am flying!!!* I soar upward using a half breastroke, half dog paddle motion up over the top of the building...*

and I am stunned and awed by what I see...

The sky is full of other lucid dreamers flying.... they are all races, all ages, they are in various shades of night dress. Some in pajamas, some in night gowns or night shirts.* I fly towards them and some are laughing, others are yelling welcome, and all are enormously happy. I spy a man dressed in Superman pajamas and we lock hands as parachutists do when they free fall and I said "I'm flying!" and he says "I know.. isn't it wonderful!" and the dream starts to fade.* I tried to spin, etc. but it was too late.

I am still on a "high" from that dream.* Oh, and if anyone was out flying this morning around 7:00 am central time in Superman pajamas... it was nice to meet you

The above was my first and most memorable flying dream.. I hope you enjoyed it!

      That's amazing!

I know what you mean about nightmares inducing lucidity. Before I started reading about LDs and trying to have them, this was the only way I'd have a LD. And, since it was a nightmare, I'd make myself wake up immediately.

I'm glad you liked it Funes!

Also here's something for you to try the next time you're in a nightmare. Instead of using your lucidity to wake yourself up, make your body a weapon! Simply say aloud "I believe in the power of pure white light" and KNOW that you can shoot white lightning bolts out of your fists.. and start blasting!!

      Take care,

I love to fly too. I have flown over the Andes Mountains, the Sierra-Nevada Desert, and a fictitious city that is a common dreamscape of mine. I have also flown through space a few times. I have never seen anybody else flying while I was, but I have seen people on the ground. Flying is one thing that means with 100% accuracy that I am dreaming. That is why I often employ the method of willing myself to fly many times during the day so I will try it in a dream and actually pull it off. Flying by my own power has induced lucid dreams for me every single time since I really learned about lucid dreaming (thanks to this site). However, I sometimes have dreams where I am flying because I am holding a kick board that floats up into the sky as it would float upward in water, dreams where I am flying because I am holding a tube raft that flies, dreams where I am standing on a building that flies, etc. I am trying to train my mind to recognize those as dream situations also. Flying by my own power leaves absolutely no question at this point. I have learned to completely associate the two.
      You are dreaming right now.

Sadly I don't remember ever flying in my non-lucid dreams (that would be a such a great dream sign). Until that happens, I'll have to wait til I'm lucid to do all my flying.

I love flying dreams. There's just something so amazing about them. It deffinately gives you a high. In previous LD's I did so much flying because it was the first thing that came to my mind to do. I often did it while I was trying to figure out what else to do, being bombarded with all the possible choices and things I could do.

Flying is such an incredible experience. I've always wanted to be able to fly, and I love standing at the edge of a high cliff and looking down at the things below. Just the sight is awesome, but the whole experience is just mind-blowing. When I achieved my first long lucid, that was the first thing I did, and I doubt I'll get bored of flying for a long, long time. It makes me feel like I'm completely free, like nothing can hold me back, and I can do anything I want.
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

I'm glad that your mind isn't fooling you. I think that when I do that, I get used to not being able to fly (when i'm awake) and then I won't be able to fly in my dreams too. an example of something that made me realise I was dreaming, was this: in a dream, I was getting really angry because I was robbing a supermarket, and a guy tried to stop me and pulled a knife. He said: "but you're dreaming, right?" I couldn't stand that he was right, but after that I realised my possibilities...

      Ideas for things to do

I came up with a pretty good idea for something to do in a LD. I'm going to try it out tonight and hopefully I am successful. Here's the idea: Go to some area that has a lot of buildings then by whatever means possible start spinning some webs and go through the city Spidey style.

I was gonna do that in one of my LDs, but then some bad guy came running by and I had to use my webbing to stop him -- worked pretty well! But then I woke up before I had a chance to do any swinging.
