- The character essay is commonly required in many classrooms, from high school to college. The character essay is usually only found in literature courses, and is often used in relation to mandatory reading.
Occasionally, you might be asked to write a character essay in film, arts, and literature classes. The character essay not only helps the teacher identify a students analytical and critical thinking skills, it helps the student develop his or her own skills. Many students are ready pay someone to write my paper cheap instead of writing the paper themselves.
The character essay is often given to students as a complement to mandatory classroom reading. It is designed to reinforce key points throughout the literature, bringing attention to subtle points such as metaphors and symbolism. The character essay then tests the students ability to not only discern the subtleties in the novel or movie, it requires them to careful analyze the situation as it relates to the prompt.
In the introduction to your character essay, you will start by introducing your character. You will probably mention the character’s name in the introductory sentence. In the rest of the introduction, you will answer the essay prompt by describing your character and how he relates to the prompt.
For instance, let’s say your character is Romeo in the Shakespearean classic Romeo and Juliet. In a lower difficulty course, your character essay might be as simple as describing Romeo. If this is the case, you would probably make more references to his character and general description. Perhaps you will write about his habits and attitude. If you really want to impress your teacher, you will write about how his attitude affects his actions.
A more advanced writing course may ask you to describe how Romeo’s emotional state affected his decisions later on during the play. Here you are expected to not only describe Romeo’s current and past emotional state, you will need to analyze how it relates to the later events in the play. Well thought out character essays will look at the character in every light.
Teachers are looking for character essays that are well thought out and organized. It is important to stay on point. Make sure each and every paragraph not only describes your character, but that it is also answering the essay prompt as well. Also, the transitions between paragraphs should be logical.
The concluding sentence of each paragraph should not only reiterate key points that were made, it should somehow introduce the subject matter of the next paragraph.
It is important in writing the character essay that you clearly understand your character. When reading your essay, the teacher will expect that you understand the issues, and that each statement is backed up with facts and not opinions. Supporting your opinions with facts represents true understanding of the subject matter at hand.
For instance, in your character essay you might say that Romeo is a cruel man. An effective character essay will support that opinion with factual examples from the play. Effective use of support makes it clear that the author not only understands the subject matter, but that the author knows how to use factual support properly when writing character essays.
