On the path to Ludid Dreams

by OldSchoolRPGs on 09-04-2011 at 08:50 PM
Hopefully this marks the beginning of a long and successful venture into the world of Lucid Dreaming for me. After discovering this site only yesterday, I became instantly intrigued at the thought of controlling my own dreams. Prior to last night, my experiences with dreams only involved the occasional remembrance of what I dreamed the night before. As a child i used to have a lot nightmares from what I can remember. Walking slow, being small, impending doom, not being able to talk/scream. All that good stuff. I can say that for the past many years though that I haven't had really any nightmares, besides the ones where I am at work in my dream, haha.

My goal with Lucid Dreaming is not spiritual. Nor is it to inspire creativity. It is simply to experience something beyond what we as humans can explain. Dreams and the human brain, while widely researched, still can't be 100% explained. There are things that happened that are beyond our grasp of understanding and there is an element of mystery to it. The thought of being able to fly, go on an adventure, and be in complete control of an environment that can feel as real as the real world excites me. I am more than ready to venture into the world of Lucid Dreams!

Last night I grabbed a spare notebook I had and designated it my Dream Journal. I placed it on the night stand next to my bed where my alarm clock, phone and fan are so that hopefully I would see it and immediately write down anything I could remember about my dreams. I also repeated the phrase "I will record my dreams when I wake up" over and over in my head while falling asleep. It normally takes me awhile to fall asleep, and a lot of thoughts through the day get repeated in my head as I lay there, sometimes keeping me awake. I'll admit, I was extremely excited to see what kind of dreams my mind was going to produce, and if I'd be able to remember them all and actually record them.

    Dream 1

I remember sitting in my room on the floor near my shelf of DVD's. I see a small container filled with weed just sitting there on top of some of my DVDs. Next I remember driving around on some back roads. I had this feeling like I was leaving work and was heading home to take a shower, because my job involves me getting pretty dirty so the first thing I always do is take a shower.

The dream seemed to transition from being just back roads to me driving around in a huge parking lot. During that time I seemed to be smoking a joint of the weed that I found earlier. The parking lot looked very similar to a mall near my house, though it's not on the way home from work so I don't know why I would've been driving around there if my intention was to go home and take a shower. I remember at one point while being in the car I was wearing my robe I put on after taking a shower. My mind obviously had a shower on it's mind.

I also recall some sort of commentary about the things I was doing in my dream. Like if I was watching my dream like a movie and I put on the directors commentary. The voice was not recognizable to me though.

As I woke up, I looked over to check the time and saw my Dream Journal sitting there. Immediately I started writing down everything I could think of. I didn't turn the lights on to see what I was writing. I am also a very sloppy writer, so my entry looks like a jumbled pile of words that I had to decipher this morning while using what I could remember later on to put together the dream.

I then put the Dream Journal back in its place and went back to sleep, repeating the same phrase again and again to remind myself to remember my dream. During this time of trying to fall back asleep, my mind seemed like it was creating it's own thoughts. It felt similar to day dreaming, but it seemed like I wasn't in control of what I was thinking. Scenarios were playing out in my head without my control, and I would eventually snap out of it and repeat the phrase again and again. I'm almost positive I wasn't in any sort of sleep state, but I wasn't 100% awake either. It was rather strange. I eventually fell asleep though.

    Dream 2

I am driving on an icy road in what seemed to be winter time with my older brother and his girlfriend. The section of road we were on was very familiar, and looked to be one that is located close to my house. We are part of a convoy because my co-worker is driving his car in front of us, and there is a car behind us too that was traveling with us. I don't exactly recall who was in the car behind us, but I believe it might have been one of my Aunts. We were headed towards a destination for which I cannot remember clearly.

Suddenly my co-worker slams on his breaks in front of me. I have to make a quick swerve to get out of the way, but the car driving behind us decided to drive up to the side of me and I ended up hitting that car, as well as hitting my co-workers car in front of me. We decide to pull into a nearby parking lot to look at the damage of our cars. This parking lot was not familiar and it seemed like the road we were on transitioned into some unfamiliar road. As we get into the parking lot to look at the damage, it's no longer winter, and I notice there is no visible damage to any of our cars. I am very relieved because I was worrying about having to pay money to fix all of the damage, money I didn't have. It seemed however that my co-worker was very angry at the fact that there was an accident, possibly directed at me. Which now seems strange because there was no visible damage, and it wasn't really anybody's fault because the road conditions were icy and no one could stop.

Things get a little fuzzy, but then I remember me, my Mom, and my 3 year old Niece being in the parking lot where we pulled into. I open up a big box that contained mini bags of Doritos that had 3 different flavors, one being Habanero which I know she would hate cause she doesn't like anything even remotely spicy. I asked my Niece which flavor bag she wanted, and of course she picks the Habanero one. Me and my Mom tell her that she won't like it because it's spicy, but she replies "No, it not bicy" like a 3 year old would pronounce it.

Again I recorded it in my Dream Journal. A sloppy jumble of words that would only be readable by myself. I think I need to switch from writing it down to voice recording on my phone or something. Though I need something on my night stand to remind me to record my dream when I wake up, like how the notebook did. Hopefully I can learn to do it instinctively as I rise each time.

I don't know what constitutes as a normal dream, but these 2 seemed rather odd if you ask me. As far as I can remember, I have never remembered 2 dreams in one night. I might only remember one dream a month if that. I think because I implanted the idea of wanting to remember my dream, mixed with recording it immediately when I wake up helped me achieve this. Which to me is more than I imagined would happen after just my first night.
