Tornadoes - Recurring Dreams With Specific Details

      Tornadoes

I've had dreams about tornadoes on some sort of recurring basis since I was a young kid. Growing up in the Midwest, beastly storms were no stranger to me, but they have always had a unique way of presenting themselves to me in dreams. Lately (over the last few years) they have been very specific in where and how they occur, and I'd like to share it with you guys and see what you think.

A few things that have always been prominent in my tornado dreams are that I typically sense or see them coming from a distance - sometimes, from where I am in my dream, I spot them off in the distance and notice them slowly coming closer to me. But most of the time, I just have a sense that one is coming, so I go looking for it. Once I see it, that's usually when the race to warn others and seek shelter begins, as it's always coming in my direction and a direct impact is always imminent. Also, the twisters always stand out so vividly in the sky or on the horizon. Usually the weather is perfectly clear and there's just this big, spectacular swirling form in the center of my view. And while they are always so visually prominent, they never make any noise (although sometimes, but not usually, there are tornado sirens sounding).

In the past, they have happened everywhere in my dream world. While at work, at church, driving down the road, or at home. I always spot them, and they always come for me.

Not too long ago, these recurring dreams started to have more specific guidelines for playing out. What happens now, and what seems like every single tornado dream that I've had in the last few years, is that I'm visiting with family at my uncle's house and I sense a storm is coming. I usually look out of the large window at the front of the house or out of the french doors leading out back to the deck, and always spot a swirling tornado on the horizon.

After this, I usually gather up friends and family and bring them all into the den, where we hunker down and brace for the impact. Sometimes, I'll get up to check on the progress of the tornado, expecting it to be close to hitting us. Finally, with my head down on the floor, I feel the winds pick up around us. The tornado slowly moves over us, but never does any sort of damage.

After it has passed, I get up to go check on the tornado. It is beyond us and is either disappearing into the sky or moving towards the horizon, away from me and my family.

      I then wake up.

I wouldn't even call this dream a nightmare. It's not scary, and hasn't been since I was much younger. I've never become lucid in one of these dreams, either, although I've sometimes had the feeling of deja vu. It's just surprising to me how often I have these (every few months) and how they are almost always identical to each other. Sometimes it's night outside, sometimes it's daytime. Occasionally I'll dream about the house post-renovation, but usually it looks as it did in my childhood. But these are just small variables.

What do you make of it? I'm interested in other people's thoughts.

Its common to dream of storms, waves and tornado's when you are feeling overwhelmed, depressed or like everything is falling apart. Hope that helps. Just recognize those dreams for what they are and realize you are having them as sort of an internal reminder that you are under stress and need to find solutions to relieve that stress.
